I have stocked up for any outages and water failures. Got two 30 bottle packs, seven candles, tons of non-perishable food items, charged my phone and battery, got flashlights, a first aid kid is somewhere in the house, and I dug up my old Nintendo DS and PSP games if all hell breaks loose and I'm bored without electricity.
I spent my summer in Maine last year and met some amazing people from all over New England, so my thoughts are with everyone in the East Coast, hope it doesn't get any worse for you guys !

The eye of the "hurricane" is going over my Connecticut town. But I think everyones overreacting. It's barly a Cat. 1 now. I think if worst comes to worst we'll get power outages for a couple days.
I was wrong. The more outward part of the hurricane is going to hit me. There won't be much rain, but there will be quite a bit of rain where I am. I should just be glad that the hurricane isn't heading up the Chesapeake. I have my laptop, ipod, and DS charging, have a bathtub full of water, as well as several pitchers, and plenty of lanterns. I probably won't bother using the lanterns. Oh, and I downloaded ponies onto my laptop
Smart man, smart man. I would recommend getting a generator or fashioning a makeshift one if you want to actually keep watching ponies.
That goes for all of you planning on long term electricity shortage. Your batteries won't last forever.
I live in Houston. We apparently get hurricanes all the time. Here's the thing: I've lived here for two years and still haven't gotten hit. I guess mother nature is laying off Texas ever since Ike.
I hope the big men in the suits on Capitol Hill are in session when it hits. It's highly unlikely, but I can always hope.
If they were, it's already past them at this point. I believe that the eye of the storm is in Maryland, or thereabouts. I don't think that a power outage would last that long where I am, as I'm only going to be on the edge of the storm. Still, I'm counting on the power going out in 40-50 MPH winds.

That depends on the infrastructure. Hurricanes of any large power are exceedingly rare up there, so if might even go out in less. It really all falls to luck, and that goes for pretty much everywhere that's going to be hit. Hopefully NYC doesn't have any rolling blackouts, or that'll be chaos.
Filling my bathtub with water now. Woo! Bring it on Irene! But I think I'm pretty safe. I'm more concerned for others. Over 1 million have already lost power. And last time I checked, at least 8 deaths. Irene has already gone too far. >:[
A few seconds after I hit submit, the news stated that the National Hurricane Center has downgraded it to a tropical storm. It's just southeast of NYC.
