"Odinism" tends to be a racialistic, ethnicistic and ethnically exclusivist branch, near to the Völkisch ideals, addressed only to people with a clear Germanic ancestry, as opposed to "Forn Siðr", "Ãsatrú" which may or may not refer to racialist or "folkish" ideals. As defined by Goodrick-Clarke (2002), Nordic racial paganism is synonymous with the Odinist movement (including some who identify as Wotanist). He describes it as a "spiritual rediscovery of the Aryan ancestral gods [...] intended to embed the white races in a sacred worldview that supports their tribal feeling", and expressed in "imaginative forms of ritual magic and ceremonial forms of fraternal fellowship". Do you reckon yourself in this description? If not, why not?
On what points do you follow or differ from the Edda and ancient nordic cults?

I'm from Sweden, and I've never even heard of the term "Odinism", but I assume it's a modern version of the old Norse mythology. Still, the only reason I can see why someone would convert to that religion would probably be out of extreme patriotism rather than a religious belief, so it's not unlikely that many of those who do so are racist as well.
Really, they believed that the world was a tree, at the bottom of the tree where was the a dragon who'd chew on the roots all day hoping to bring it down, and a serpent was lying around the edge of the world, yet still long enough to bite his own tail whilst doing so. They also believed that the world would pretty much end completely, and only two humans and a handful of aesir would survive, and that the world was originally created out of the remains of a frost giant. Apparently, the sky is made of his skull.
Anyways, my point is that there's no chance anyone would believe in this because they think it's what actually happened or will happen. It's either because of patriotism, or the way it glorifies warriors and bloodshed.
[quote]Originally there was a chasm, Ginnungagap, bounded on either side by fire (from the world known as Muspelheim) and ice (from the world known as Niflheim). When fire and ice met, they combined to form a giant, named Ymir, and a cow, named Audhumbla (Auðhumla), who nourished Ymir. She survived by licking the salty ice blocks. From her licking emerged Bur (Búri), the grandfather of the Aesir. Ymir, father of the frost giants, employed equally unusual procreative techniques. He sweated a male and a female from under his left arm.
@iMogwai What you described is the norse mythology from the Edda, right? You're right in assuming Odinism, or any sort of neo-paganism, is a modern version of old "beliefs"; neo-paganism is just what the name says, it's modern-day paganism that hasn't a lot to do with how people lived back then. Much rather it's a more or less recent movement, that glorifies modern views on paganism rather than the actual historical culture. It's been supported by folk bands and especially folk metal (Amon Amarth to name a prominent example) who use that wave for commercial purposes, because, heck it works and sounds great! Also motivations behind joining such a movement are very diversified.
kudos that you know about amon amarth. I didn't think anybody on AG knew about them, but I digress.
just because there is a neo-pagan movement, that doesn't me we start hating on his beliefs just because of how commercialized they are. I'm sure that KMT has a thorough understanding of the all-father and just wants to return to asgard after dying an honourable death in battle. btw, how is that going?
Hmm... bladerunner you know if i want to go Valhalla i must die in battle and it happens if Odin is calling me away. Of course my soul can get Odin or Frej so don´t worry about my death. Yes, Odinism is neo-paganism and it is more real then Christianity. We have our god named Thor(God who nailed your God with hammer),Odin(god of wisdom and death), Frej(god of plentyness and peace), Freja( *****! who went bed for a jewelry), Loke(christians it is Lucifer) and other gods and godess. So don´t take it into your heard and ask from your all-mighty that: What are you have been done in Earth for a while. If i look the christianity history and what i see. I see wars about christians example: Holy Land war, destroying whole nation in America, South and North. I see a lot of death and it is not noble. Even A. Hitler thought god help him. Then i see witch hunting what was very useless, what was the Vatikan thinking??? And i read a Bible, hahahahaa, it was a very big fairytell, God created world only 7 days?? Ou comeone!!! And the legend of Noa ship, guys dont copy other religion storys and did you realy thought that Noa survived after the God anger was gone? No he died in all disease what God favourite animal FLY gave it and ofcourse microbes. And this is enough for a while. Ask more
I was christian first but when i find about christianity in history and my parents broke up so i send God into Hell haahhaha.. and started listening black, folk metal and punk. I asked help from gods when i had hard times and they helped me also they gave me inspirations and motive to live and art.
And i like North gods much more then God and of course i live in Estonia and swedens are gave us some north culture so the Odinism culture is more clean then christians..
hmm... how.. if you look the lyrics you maybe understand it Korpiklaani- Rise if you listen careful the words you understand it. Idea is that God and Jesus are a bad guys.
