"Ask a..." threads have been quite popular lately.
The threads allow the topics to remain more specific to a said religion without having to jumble everything into a generalized thread.
Everyone seems to be doing a good job keeping each thread distinct from one another when it comes to actual discussion. However...
The threads are beginning to flood the WEPR section. There are currently 5 threads on the front page that begin with "Ask A..." Though it's purely optional and will not result in a locked thread, I ask that everyone avoid titling their thread "Ask a..." for the time being. : )
Also, if any of the OPs of the "Ask a..." threads would like their thread title to be changed, go ahead and let me know.
Does it REALLY matter what they call themselves, its a little tedious but as long as they're good threads then who cares?
The threads aren't technically breaking any rules, nor are the titles really doing any harm. This is why I will not take any action on threads titled "Ask a...", nor will I take any action against the members creating said threads.
A few members, including myself, find it somewhat annoying that so many threads are titled "Ask a...", and though there isn't any harm being done, I feel it's not out of bounds to at least ask people to use different titles.
Again, I will not be taking any action against "Ask a..." threads. If someone still wishes to title their thread "Ask a..." then they are welcome to do so.
Is it the repetition of the titles that annoys you, or is it the repetition of the theme(Ask some person about their religious beliefs...)? Couldn't it technically be considered plagiarism?
Also(and I apologize for the double post) wouldn't it have been easier just to contact the OPs of the "Ask A" threads about this on their profiles and ask them to change the titles, instead of creating a thread for it?
I would say that there's not too much need for this thread, and I agree with your point.
Wouldn't it have been more useful to have a "hub" for AA's? This could've been it, it would be a question made by someone, directed to a religion and someone, a member of said religion answers.
I could see this spreading conflict between different segments of similiar religions, but I think people who research or already know of different versions of stories / beliefs etc would benefit the WEPR section greatly.
Would it even need to be a person of that religion?
I just don't see a hub working as well at all, or any need for one, the OPs are running their respective threads well and as far as I seee there hasn't been any conflict yet.
Not really, all the discussion would get jumbled into one thread and hard to follow. A bunch of questions would probably be left unanswered because nobody realizes that they're there.

The point of this thread is to point out that Aa threads are annoying. It's a polite way of asking people to stop. You're lucky I'm not being demanding.

I really think you should of named it "Not another Ask a Thread" Or "Ask a moderator, How annoying"
Come on Noname, get creative ;]
I agree, the Ask a could get out of hand, mainly if every single denominations within religions are taken into consideration.
The ones we have at the minute are good, but the likes of "Ask a Roman Catholic" would be pushing it too far ;]
Are you allowed to do that? I don't mean to be argumentative or anything, but there's nothing in the rules about this, so your only problem with the AA threads is that you find them annoying. Are you allowed to use your moderator power to demand these people change their titles, or what?
unoriginal

But I was actually under the impression that the AA was a thread template, and therefore a safe start in the World Events, Politics, Religion forum for someone who hates religious debates with a passion. That's my bad. You can change the title of my thread, I really don't care.

If you read the whole thing and didn't get defensive, you'd realize that throughout the original post, it was stated that the threads are in no way against the rules, they are however flooding the first page of the WERP section simply because the religious threads lead to more debate/activity. He is simply asking for no more, asking, not demanding. If you did it for every religion, it would just get bored. I'm also sick of "Ask a" because the threads aren't a question and answer thread: they state they will be, but as always, it turns into a "Prove it" argument, never a friendly informative session.
Noname never said he was going to change the name of your threads, he asked if anyone would like to change it (Maybe considering, as i just stated, they are not question and answer sessions, for the most part)
