As many of you know, it will soon be ten years since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. On that day, America was hit by the largest attack on our own soil since Pearl Harbor in 1941. While New York and the rest of the nation focuses on the memorial being built at Ground Zero, I believe that something similar is in order here on AG. This thread is crafted as a memorial to the victims of that day and as a tribute to the heroes in the New York Fire Department, New York Police Department, the U.S. Military, the passengers of Flight 93, and all the people who tried to save others or rose as the first counterattack against the terrorists.

What went through your mind when you first heard the news? What did you do? If you have any directly relevant stories, like knowing someone who was on one of the hijacked planes or in the towers or the Pentagon, being there yourself when the attacks hit, helping with the cleanup, even being one of the people working on the memorial in New York City, anything like that, feel especially welcome to post it here. Even simple well-wishes to the families of the victims are welcome.

Be forewarned, this thread is not a place for editorializing about Muslims, ranting about conspiracy theories, launching barbs about the government then or now, making lame and sick attempts at humor, or being a fool in any such manner. This thread is made for remembering our fallen citizens, and commemorating the heroes of that day. BE RESPECTFUL.

Let's Roll.

^ Thank you for posting that.

There is a story that was included in one of the National Geographic Channel's programs this week about stories from 9/11. It was told by the man that this happened to.

As the towers fell, there was a rush of people trying to run away from the area. This man, who was a practicing Muslim, was among those fleeing when he tripped and fell and was stunned for a moment. Another man, who it was obvious from his clothes and hair was a practicing Jew, stopped, gave him a hand getting up, and said, "Come on Brother, let's get out of here."

In the face of everything that happened, this is an uplifting story of compassion.

They Dont actually Know if Osama Bin Laden did the attack.

The Mainly Thought it was OBL that did it.

You're starting to get off-topic. The Administrator jroyster22 has a thread going currently on page two of WEPR called "9/11 Question," your comment would fit better there. There has already been one previous breach of subject integrity on this thread, let's avoid another.

Found an interesting article- says that watching 9/11 videos is psychologically bad.

The memorial yesterday was truly beautiful. I swear i broke into tears when the girl started playing the flute.

There doesn't need to be an article to state that. Watched 3000+ people die is of course psychologically bad. Watching people jump out of a building to die quicker or try save themselves isn't exactly healthy.

God bless all the victims of this gruesome attack.

Such a tragic day. I watched a program about the 9/11 yesterday and a report on the memorial. It was beautiful.

The program had the words of three survivors. God was looking after them...

Hm... sorry for DP, but with "It was beautiful" I meant that the memorial was beautiful. The empty chairs on the park were very symbolic. The waterfalls in the location on the towers were very beautiful.

Here they showed "Children of 9/11" - several families who had lost their parents on 9/11. It also showed a camp for such kids where they can go to every summer and meet other kids who are going through the exact same thing as them - very amazing.

I hope they turned out alright. not having a father/mother in the family can be traumatic.

the memorial was beautiful. I liked the memorial plate with all the names of those who died there. may they rest in peace.

Yeah they all did - the ones featured in the documentary anyways.
One guy went off the rails with drink and smoke but found his way again. There was a heartbreaking story of a kid who was born two days after his dad died saving lives. Four years later or something the kid was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
