Is religion really that important? If someone is not the same religion as you, should you call them out, reject them, and/or shove yours down their throat. Religion should no be a deciding factor. Yes, you can have your own religion, I don't have a problem with that. What I have a problem with is religious bias, discrimination, and pushing your religion o others when they are truley happy with their own. I find it disgusting when people get so overworked about someone not being a certain religion. Who cares? Does it make them a bad person? No. It makes them themselves. That is about all I have to say for now.

This is the generic set of beliefs that everyone here is going to agree with you on, I'm not sure where you want people to go with this.

I'm all fine with that- but it's when people are flaming on other people's religions- and I know some morons who put literal quotes on their pages about how Christians and/or Muslims or Jews have more respect than they deserve.

Be careful of prayers because they could be magic spells on you!

yes. I compleatly agree. Even though my opinion is very biased I don't think religon is the problem. The [roblem is how people use it.

My issue with fanatics:

Is whatever you believe in really that important? If someone does not the same opinion as you, should you call them out, reject them, and/or shove yours down their throat? And so on.

Anyways, what you say goes about fanatics of all kinds, not just people who take their religious beliefs too far. Even if what they are supporting is a good thing, taking it too far is just counter-productive and annoying.

You want to take care of the environment? That's great!

You want to encourage people to do the same? That's good, as long as you don't try to force them.

What's that? You want to force them? Well, now you're just an *** no one wants to listen to instead.

Summary:

Fanatics suck, whether they're fanatic about religious beliefs, political views, the environment, human rights, etc.

It's not the fault of the views themselves, but the fault of the person because he/she takes them too freaking far.

Indeed, quite frankly what I've against religion is mostly the ideology it enforces. I've little problem with being tolerant of someone who is religious as long as they pay the same respect.

Whilst I will continue debating against Religion for the many reasons I have, I should note that I would want to be on good terms with those I'm "up against" - it helps everything go much smoother and is more comforting to know that your biggest "enemy" is actually a friend.

I question ones liability if they're religious - it could be considered prejudice, but Religion being real itself is illogical (in pretty much every scenario). The belief in that constitutes an inability to be logical / reasonable for everything.

If you want to believe in a Religion - of course, but I truthfully cannot see a "true" religious person not wanting a hinderance on scientific advances made that go against religion etc.
I think I put it in the wrong way. I just think that anyone who believes in the tenants of a religion (faith, love, etc... note the faith part) would be naturally untolerant of other beliefs that are contradictory to it.

What's that? You want to force them? Well, now you're just an *** no one wants to listen to instead.

The worst thing about this, especially with enviromental matters (Hello, PETA), is that they ruin the face of others who believe the same.

My issue with religion is that it can get in the way of otherwise rational thought. It can make it harder to distinguish reality from fiction and that can potentially become dangerous not just for the individual who holds the belief but for those around them as well.

It's kind of hard to follow your religion if your religion tells you to stone pretty much everything that moves.

I don't really know where I was going with this, I just felt like talking about it.

whoa, hold on now. some of the most rational people I know go to my church. I'm, in a way, a little more rational than them, but the only true fanatics you will actually find are those who do nothing but something that is involved in what they are fanatics about. religious nuts are much rarer than you think, but if you find one, I don't see any reason to pay heed to them. so long as you don't force crap down my throat, I don't see any reason to do the same.

So your saying the belief of a supernatural being that has no evidence of either this being existing or a supernatural state existing is rational? Simply believing this based on one's emotions is not rational and these beliefs CAN then impede ones ability to rationally view other subjects presented to them, as you now have to try and fit this presumed conclusion in.

Just because it can doesn't mean it will hinder rational thinking. You can belive in god and still be very rational. You don't need to involve god in every aspect of your life. It's not as if most people think "what!? This person was drunk and died in a car crash!? Well I guess god wanted him then." I'm sorry, I know you know this. But what he means is that by the way you said it, it seems like you were saying that holding religous belifes hinders rational thinking for everyone who holds religous belifes.

Yeah, that's why I bolded can, because I'm not saying that it absolutely will cause everyone to be irrational nut jobs. Even in my first post I use the word can rather than will. Very often with religious thinking we will get this compartmentalized thinking where one does believe in an unproven thing like god but then turn around and accept all the major theories presented in science.
