A phobia is defined as an irrational fear only. Being afraid of falling when you're hanging by one arm on the side of a cliff isn't irrational. Being afraid of falling when you're 4 feet off the ground is irrational.
Your statement is just ... nonsense. Ok, I have respect for your view, but this argument is just stupid.
You shouldn't have respect for his view. You should respect that he has a right to his own views, but that doesn't mean they are worthy of respect. Nuances, they kill you, but they make a world of difference. Stupid ideas do not deserve to be respected, even if they come from a respectable person.
