Why is Portuguese a difficult language even for people who actually speak it?

Long ago, when the first rulers of Portugal created Portuguese, they wanted to make their people the smartest in the land. They thought and thought of a way to do this until they finally came up with an idea. They made their language so difficult that only the smartest could master it and live comfortably in Portugal.

Why did I do that?

Because you were the first ruler of Portugal and you created the Portuguese language
