We have heard of all this family. But why so many kids??? I saw the commercial before I watched it on tv and the commercial was like "the have a special announcement" and I was thinking, "wow wonder what it is". I am just confused and curious about all of this. Why the kids? Why have more? Health risks? What is your opinion? Here's the article

In the past or until quite recently perhaps people tended to have more kids to let the name of the family past down, to ensure that some of your offspring survived due to mortality rates, and because of a lack of contraceptions, at least from where I come from.

I have at least 11 uncles and aunts not including my father on my paternal side, whilst my grandparents also had I think, 3 miscarriages.

On the basis that miscarriages happen in the early weeks of the gestation, they should not really be taken into account. A child born dead would count, of course...

My point being that it would be possible for a woman to have 12 miscarriages in a single year...

I was under the impression that Germany stood at 1.39 whilst France 1.9. Italy at 1.33 and Spain at 1.32 with Greece at around 1.29. I'd say they were relatively comparable.

French and Swedish birth rates (along with the Irish) are considered to have some of the higher birth rates in Europe, so comparing them to Germany wouldn't be a fair comparison, but I didn't compare anyone directly. I actually said:

Germany has a comparable birth rate to most Western nations.
