so do people think we evolved from billions of years ago, and became the most intelligent animal that has ever lived on this planet by chance, or that, an other theory, that we were put here but aliens as an experiment.

I believe that God created the humans as monkies with minds(MIM's) and then the MIM's, having minds learned to become humans. That is why we still have monkies, because they have no minds.

Well I believe that all life originally came forth from the primordial ooze as less than stunning microbes. Then, after a millenia, became basic primates which became people.

And how can you justify saying that monkeys have no minds? Some monkeys are far more intelligent than most of the people I see roaming around today.

Merriam Webster's definition of mind is "the element or complex of elements in an individual that feels, perceives, thinks, wills, and especially reasons." Now let's say I'm a monkey. Do I wake up in the morning and think "What a great dream that was. Now I shall go and find some breakfast." After walking to a group of banana trees, do I think "And which bunch looks the best? Not that one, it has some dirt on it. That one looks clean... oh, wait, it has some bugs eating it. Look, there's a good one."? Instead, the monkey would wake up, find a banana tree, and eat the first banana it finds. My point is that monkies cannot reason. Therefore, they have no minds, even though it is proven that monkies can remember more than people in some subjects.

By your bare-bones, half-ass explanation I shall come to the conclusion that Paris Hilton and Tom Cruise do not have minds. It is now cleary arguable that they do are mindless Hollywood byproducts.

Just to get it straight: You are saying because they may not put as much consideration in everyday tasks as us, they do not have minds? That is quite simply one giant, steaming, festering, borderline ignorant load of Nonsense. That is right, capital N.

If I wanted to, I could pull a myriad of dictionary meanings out of any number of works to prove my arguments. But I do not, you know why? They give the meaning of words unrelated to context or subject matter. Have you ever heard of a Nobel Prize winner thanking the dictionary for explaining to them all of their questions and reasonings?

And now I dissapear in a display of smoke and reason! *poof*

My only point was that monkies cannot reason; they only act upon instinct. Therefore, since they just follow a pre-programmed pattern, they have no minds.

Some animals like monkeys and crows are capable of making and using tools. I think this type of activity requires thought. Also, monkeys aren't any more preprogrammed than we are. A monkey might not be terribly picky about the food he eats, but he's not going to eat something rotten or poisonous.
I think the main faculty that animals lack is the ability to think about thought, which is one type of definition of sentience.

Exactly. And there is a clear difference betweem being sentient and having a "mind", which is far too loose of a word anyway. Also, by the definition of the word 'mind' above, in all seriousness that would include a majority of mentally hanicapped individuals.

And who says monkies can not reason? Have you been alive for the past decade or so? There have been a plethora of tests doen with monkeys testing memory, problem solving techniques and so on.

Here is my random, uninhibited, it's 2:15 a.m. post. I was up watching Unsolved Mysteries UFO collection (we get them from Blockbuster). It would suck if our planet was nothing but an alien experiment, really. There are all these "sightings" of UFOs and abductions. Maybe those are the researchers just coming down and collecting data. I bet that would put a large dent in the general happiness of the population if we found out we were nothing but an experiment.

No point, just noticing how terrible it would be.

I agree with bloodywolf on the first page (to an extent), but the idea of this thread is ridiculous. I believe that humans did start by gasses and light. Then evolution. It is the only viable theory. If this is true, then we cannot created to be watched.

Now that I think about it, we could be an alien experiment. I mean think about it, lots of people have seen aliens, maybe they are visiting Earth to check up on us.

I doubt we came from an alien experiment. I mean, comon. What are the chances that a few aliens decided to make humans, and check in on us every so often. Ok, you say, the chance is still there. However, if we were being experimented on, wouldn't you think that they would ahve more control over us? Wouldn't we feel more like guinea pigs then humans? Where is our free will? I'll tell you where, out the window, thats where. Finally, lets SAY that we are an experiment. Then wouldn't anything like this, or AvP, or anything alien be TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT from the alien's point of view? I believe that they then would somehow alter our thinking, to not think about if were being experimented on or not.

Evolution. Many people say yes, many say no. I personally don't believe it. To me, God made us what we are, and no monkey ever did. The farthest I'd go to believing evolution is that God started off the Big Bang, so bottom line is that he still made us.
