I have a question to all believers, what's your reason for sticking to your religion? (meaning why do you do it faithfuly, if you just do it cause your parents do it then I don't think you really believe)

Listen, why must you question his belief in his religion? You and many other atheists have complained that all religious people want to convert others to their religion, but then you turn around and attempt to "convert" him to atheism. Could you please explain to me why there seems to be a double standard here?

I didn't question his belief in his religion I questioned whether the reasoning for it was really the best. He can remain a Mormon, what I want is to see a more rational thought put into the matter.

If a belief is really on a stable foundation how does questioning it a path to losing that belief?

I think what he meant is that he doesn't appreciate people attacking his religion so hostilely. I don't know, since I'm too lazy to go through all the squabbles. Either way, many atheists have gone back to their various faiths despite how ''stable'' it is claimed to be.

Many religious folk I know are okay with it after examining both sides and coming to a conclusion. Whilst I agree it is completely foolish to just accept it because one is used to it since young, that doesn't necessarily mean they shouldn't accept religion after careful consideration. Either way, it's really up to the individual to decide after all and we should respect that choice given that everyone has free will.

looking at the 2 posts he made. (1 here and 1 in the marijuana topic).
it seems to me that this calvin kidd is prety close minded and scared of change. he wants it all to stay how it is because it is how it is.
maybe mormon is not the right thing for him, he should check out the amish

Bah, he can't help that he was born in such an environment. Of course, that doesn't mean that he couldn't have been more open minded to different points of view. I might be missing something here, given my religious upbringing was lax. Anyway....tension breaker.

So saying that someone should look into and investigate what the believe more and actually questioning the belief instead of just blindly following in step is a hostile attack now?

No, it isn't an attack. However what irritates me is the apparent double standard with religion here. You guys say that you don't like it when people tell you, "Convert! Convert!" What makes you think that we like it when you basically tell us, "Convert!" We DO listen to reason. In fact, in Judaism it is more important to do materialistic things than spiritual.

There is nothing to "convert" to. All I said was that believing it just because you were raised in it isn't exactly the best reason from a rational perspective and you jumped on me for trying to "convert" him.Quite frankly I'm not trying to "convert" anyone. As I have said many times I'm more concerned with reason and critical thinking. If that leads to someone becoming an atheist, then so be it. If it doesn't, then so be it.

I'm not saying you're hostile, but I'm pretty sure many of the religious folk here believe some other users have been hostile.

Well, one thing I find annoying is that if you admit you're Atheist, they think you have sinned and are due for "eternal ****ation" or something like that, and also when they have ads on TV to try to get you to "accept" God into your life.

From Catholicism, mostly the "You're going to hell" rants. From other Christian (or similar) groups, the "No salvation for you" rants.

There's also the "misguided by Satan" rant because apparently God is a lot like W: You're either with us or you're a terrorist.
