I've discussed with a few of my ("religious" friends about old groups like The Beatles and such, and when I brought up John Lennon, all 4 of them stared at me like I just insulted all of Christianity. I asked them what was the problem, and one of them told me "John Lennon is Satanist."
I was rather confused by this, a man who sang and even fought (in a way) for peace worships the devil?
I doubt half of Christians actually know what a Satanist is....
Not every Satanist is a person who indulges in rituals, worships the Devil and is a hedonistic fat slug. There are also atheistic Satanists, which is a pretty interesting concept if I may say so.
Look what nutty evidence people find to make Lennon a Satanist.
What your friends think is tosh, no offense. People love controversy, and by the looks of it, half of the celebrity community is Satanist and the other a believer of Scientology.
From the source: He was known to practice ritual child sacrifice regularly
I find that very, very disturbing, to say the least.

I don't understand how people link all that up... There's also a theory they were satanist because when you play one of their songs backwards, it apparently sounds like 'satan' or something similar to that.

None taken. They don't even have reasons for stating this, they just said it randomly.

I had to explain to a teacher. Its safe to say most of America has no idea.

I looked that up. Apparently on some sites people will record a song and play it backwards. But I didn't have something to record it and play the song backwards at the time. So I could't really be sure. I think they're lying though. They said that Michael Jackson's "beat it" played backwards says "join the navy".
Satanism is like Pastafarianism, it's a mock religion.
I'll like to beg to differ in the case of Satanism. Satanists take their creed quite strongly. They have a defined set of holy texts, have a deity, or an ideal depending on the sub branch, clergymen and have festivals. All the trappings of a real religion.
Pretty much my thoughts on it. Same goes with every fake music artist ever, who cares? They are still producing that sound that people like, so what if they can't do it with their own voices? Same goes for professional sports, who cares if a football player (either soccer or american footbal, any sport really) has an argument with his wife or something? It's not your business and they are still a good player so what does it matter.
Now, back to the topic...It seems that this is just another conspiracy theory that people linked together.
If John Lennon was a satanist. I would just love a peaceful, hippie, satanist. I would be shocked, of course, but I dunno it's John Lennon. I can't stop loving the man.
I imagine haha Lennon is considered a Satanist because he singed "Imagine there's no countries [...] And no religion too". Personally, I don't think he was a Satanist or anything, but, hey, I don't know. I never met the guy.
