Have you ever noticed that every single U.S. president is Christian? Now we have a black president, sure that's a start. But we need to diversify! When people are not exposed to different people things like the KKK happen. I think we should have backrounds in office.
Colour of skin doesn't say anything about what you believe though?
I've met and spoken to white Muslims, black Jews and as far as Asians are concerned, I think I've met virtually every belief possible. I've assumed at the point of meeting what their belief is and offended people by my assumption, which wasn't great.
I really doubt that's ever going to happen. Not only that an Amish person would be elected, but that one would run in the first place...it's just an incredibly long shot.
Muslim?
Sad to say, I don't think that will happen anytime soon in the United States. Maybe someday, but definitely not right now. A lot of Americans still think of Muslims as "turban-wearing terrorists".
Jewish?
Now that's a possibility. There doesn't seem to be any particular reason why a Jew wouldn't be elected, nor is there a reason why one wouldn't run.
Interestingly enough, there are also at least two Mormons that I know of running for the presidency, Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman.
Colour of skin doesn't say anything about what you believe though? No i was implying that we need more diverse people in office.
Would you accept an Amish President? As i said before, i think we should have any-and-every type of president we can get, though an Amish president wouldn't be that good considering they would only travel in a buggy or shun electricity.
Whats an Amish? Sorry to sound stupid but i havent heard of them.
It's a sect of Christianity, they shun modern inventions like electricity, television, cars, etc. and live in their own little private communities, farming and whatnot.
So Amish people are even more crazy than most sects of Christianity?
Anyways, the will of the people will be what it will be, people from all different backgrounds should run in elections and the public'll choose who they want to choose - that's democracy.
That would be great for diversity, but I don't see it happening for at least 50 years due to the Islamaphobia that is currently hitting the nation.
Jewish?
Being Jewish, I would love to see that happen. However, due to the amount of TV preachers speaking out into politics, that might not happen until the IRA actually starts taking away their tax-free status.
Amish?
The only reason that I would not accept an Amish president is because by virtue, they do not wish to have anything to do with technology, so I don't feel that they would be able to perform their presidential duties as well as a more technologically inclined president.
Most Presidents were not really Christians and only a few ever actually became Christians. :P Such as Lincoln. He became a Christian but not during his presidency.
Well, the problem isn't their beliefs per se, it's that due to those beliefs they would be incapable of leading the country effectively.
How so?
Their beliefs say they can't operate complex machines, not that others can't do it for them? I know an Amish family who run a business, they have another company that is not Amish who run their telephone lines, website and even their fax machine.
So why not an Amish President? The President doesn't have to use technology as such, although appearing on television may be a challenge.
