Have you ever noticed that every single U.S. president is Christian?
Now we have a black president, sure that's a start. But we need to diversify! When people are not exposed to different people things like the KKK happen. I think we should have backrounds in office.

That's a bit of an extreme example you know. In this case, people wouldn't vote for you because you would be unable to communicate with anyone. It wouldn't really have anything to do with your religion, other than that it is the root cause of it.

Not so! I could write something down and have the person I'm speaking read it, couldn't I?

Possibly. If you ran for election and people didn't vote for you on the basis of a vow of silence though, wouldn't it be also acceptable that they didn't vote for you because you didn't voice any policies?

But I would be voicing policies. Like I said, I could write things down or type them...I would still be able to communicate, it would just be more of a chore.

Okay, but the policies are usually voiced to the nation through soundbites on the television, I'm not sure the written word would have the same effect.

Oh. Well, in that case I wouldn't care either way and it would come down to the merit of each candidate. You meant just speaking, I thought you meant not ever communicating with anyone ever again in any way.

I do think that religion has a big role in people's choice. Christians aren't going to want an Atheist in office, if for the simple reason that they don't hold the same beliefs. A Christian will likely work toward Christian values.

Maybe I could write the stuff, but hire a voice actor to say it for me?

That isn't going to endear the public to you though is it? Unless the voice actor is Morgan Freeman, and then you may as well decide on the colour of carpet you want in the Oval Office thingy.

Made me smile.
And refusing to fly in an airplane is hardly going to make a president look good in front of the American people, is it now? That's my point. It's not prejudice, it's practicality.

But if you're Morgan Freeman, again, you could refuse to ride in a plane and people would still vote for you. Presumably only with the face of Tim Robbins if I understand America right, but the voice of one, the face of another, you can pretty much write a cheque?

I'm sure there is prejudice in there somewhere, but it is 4am here, so it could just be tiredness.

Who is Tim Robbins?
And that's not true. If Morgan Freeman refused to ride in a plane, people wouldn't vote for him because they'd lose respect.

Have you ever seen the film The Shawshank Redemption?

Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins star side by side, and there is something about both of them that makes them work perfectly together.

And that's not true. If Morgan Freeman refused to ride in a plane, people wouldn't vote for him because they'd lose respect.

Depends how it was explained. If Morgan tried to explain anything to me, I'd probably accept it before he'd finished. Mainly because I'd be thinking about Bruce Almighty or the Bucket List, but still, I'd just cast my vote.

Let's drop the Morgan Freeman thing, shall we?
My point is, do you really think it's prejudice/bigot/racist if you're voting for someone due to the fact that because of practices they undertake for religious reasons, they would not be able to rule effectively?
If, for example, I decided that my own brand of Judaism dictated that I never leave the White House until my term was up, would it be prejudice if you didn't vote for me because of that?
Or if my own brand of Buddhism required that I not communicate to anyone from the continent of Africa, would it be prejudice if you didn't vote for me because of that?
If my brand of Christianity required that I never write anything down, including signing things, would it be prejudice if you didn't vote for me then?

Yes, but that's the only Tim Robbins flick I've ever seen. He's nowhere near being an American icon, you've got us all wrong.
