There are viruses in nature that simulate zombie like effects, however at current I believe they're confined to rats, although considering humanities history with rats and viruses, I am not sure how long that exclusivity will last.
ok im going to give a really long and drawn out awnser, so dont just be a troll and go "TO LONG DIDNT READ"
ok so by zombie you must mean the typical walking dead bullshi* and if you do then NO it doesnt exist however the same exact thing (a human neither dead or alive tthirsting for human flesh) DOES ACTUALLY EXIST! there are some extremelyrare viruses and parasites that will burrow into a human and be like "NOM ON YOUR FELLOW MAN!" but you see most of the time our immune system will fight it off anyways so they are EXTREMLY RARE TO CATCH!so yes "zombies" do exist but no, they arent the living dead.

It's a parasite in the rats. There are also fungi that can produce similar effects in insects.
There was a disease that caused people to appear dead, which lead to the invention of the safety coffin.
The safety coffin was invented more to calm the fears of the paranoid aristocracy rather than through a disease. Recorded cases of people being buried alive have been repeated and repeated throughout history, leaving the wealthy to wonder if it would ever happen to them. Only the wealthy had access to safety coffins, and their designs became more and more elaborate.
Safety coffins still exist today but are considerably more hi-tech and pander to the fears of the rich, just as they did back in the 18th century.
Oh how I wish zombies could be a biological reality. But I just don't see how our biology could support the idea of a zombie - at least in its classic, Romero-esque sense. Once people die, they are dead. The brain stops sending signals to the muscles. And whenever you see zombies in cinema, they are usually rotting, lumbering corpses. But that also means that their muscles and tendons are rotting away as well. I don't even see how the complex mechanisms to keep us upright could continue to function in this kind of condition. I think the best we could hope for is some kind of virus that does not kill the victim, but merely melts their brain down to its reptilian core. It's this core of our brain that controls our most primal urges to feed and survive. When survivors resort to cannibalism, it is often because a lack of nourishment has caused all but this core part of the brain to shut down, thus preserving energy. So if there could be a way to shut down the parts of our brain that make us human without losing our capabilities of movement and at least basic reasoning, then we may have the makings of a zombie-like creature. It wouldn't be a classical zombie, but it'd still be scary as hell!
it never was only about zombies. undead is anything that should be dead but got reanimated after some time (i mean months or years). they are not living but they are not dead, the are undead.
