Since Christianity FTW is a debate between christians and atheists I decided to make a new thread for a debate between christians and christians alone.
This is a debate between christian who have a different veiw of the bible, how to get to heaven, etc. It's about the types of christians and which ones are right and which ones are wrong. There are Roman Catholics, methodists, baptists, etc each with a different veiw of the bible.
This is a debate between the christians. State what type of christian you are and explain why you think being this type of christian is the right path.

Refresh also means to reinvigorate. God ceased work on the 7th day and was delighted of his accomplishments, which in turn, refreshed him.
Reinvigorate would still indicate a regaining of lost energy. God ceased and reinvigorated himself still sounds like resting. Sorry no getting around it.

It was the same thing, except you can't say who has or doesn't have the ability to speak in these threads.

There shouldn't be a "how", and it's difficult to highlight even basic guidelines because it would be a form of dictatorship to get into the higher state of existence (everlasting).
Not only that, but the Bible is very ambiguous, there isn't a right or wrong answer, and that isn't a good thing.
It's about the types of christians and which ones are right and which ones are wrong.
In terms of how reasonable they are, they all lose given that their religion is based on faith. That sounds crass, but it makes sense.
As for even if they're right, or their interpretations -- you can't really have it right or wrong since none are conclusively defined as right, and many are not discovered to be only wrong. Of course, there are contradictions in the Bible but then there's the subjective decision of whether or not that changes the certain subject at hand (because a lot of conflicting ideas are in the Bible).
Actually the profets who wrote the bible did write as they saw images and quotes from god.
I'm just going to cut to the logical solution. What is put forth as no one has had help understanding the Bible by God is logically sound because someone having help understanding the Bible by God has not been proven.
So, you'd make your point valid if you proved this was true, because not everyone believes this (some of the reasons being that there isn't proof supporting it).
Are you sure they weren't high? 'Cause that's what most people see when they're high...
Even now people with near-death experiences have religiously-centered hallucinations. I even know a Scottish friend who did.
I'm not going to bother perusing the rest of this thread. As already mentioned by Kasic, this particular subject is due part in Christianity FTW which has much more flesh in it (it spans over 300 pages). I recommend you redirect there if you want to have any discussion, this just clogs up the machine.

Most people claiming to be Christian arent, exactly. What they are is antinomians. That has its root in, Paul. Not Christ.

with all the different kinds of religion multiplying the way they are then by the year 2500 there will be a special religion for every town.just becuase you disagree with one little thing does not mean that you have to completly make somthing different that is just as much crap as the people before that religion.its sickening to what lenght people will go to trying to be perfect.purely horrid.

i dont think so. there are many branches to many religions but they are still considered the same religion. and if anything the numbers of religions probably will decrease in my opinion. people become more educated and stop relying on a being with their eyes closed.
What makes a Christian? Is it just belief in God? A Higher power? Is it mystical powers of Shrooms? Or is it something more, something deeper? What makes a man? What makes a good human being?
Ok, now you are all probably thinking I am on shrooms, but what connects all these things? Is it not being the best you can be? Being a Christian is more than a belief, it is a way of life.
Can a man believe in a god, and still be evil? Can a man not believe in god and still be good?
Even if you do not believe in the bible, what does it propose, Besides a testament that God exists?
How do we learn from history? Is it not through people who have lived longer than ourselves? Our parents, our Hero's......... Wise men?
In the bible it talks about a way of life, a way that will give you the greatest chance of happiness. I know it may seem like a drag, but can't truth come from anywhere? there is no set place where truth comes from, it can come just as easily from our books, as from our computers, or maybe even the most unlikely of sources, Children for example.
If I have offended anyone, I am sorry, that was not my intention. I hope those that read this are not pressured to believe in the bible, but do not judge something, unless you have experienced it yourself, I'm not saying that this applies to everything! I am pretty sure that my hand will hurt a lot if I stick it into a vat of boiling oil! and I really don't want first hand knowledge that electricity really can kill me.
But what I am saying is that The bible really does have some of the best advise in the world! Put aside what you might think is there, and read it with clearer vision. I do Believe in the Bible to be true work of god. I salute those who are good men, in the end it is all that truly matters.

It has advice, some of it I would consider wise, yes. Other parts I would consider bigoted, or wrong, or inaccurate, incomplete, homophobic and extremist.

Great. So what do you see with clear vision when you read Leviticus, Deuteronomy, half of the Old Testament and the virtues of blind faith in a God that supposedly created the universe in a manner we know to not have happened and claims that man came from dirt?

It's not a testament of God's existence in the least. Myths can be quite interesting as it can give us a view of psychological and sociological perspectives from the past. But again this question comes off as being more rhetorical.

Our learning from history is usually in a more reflective way. But I suspect your attempt here is to try and claim the Bible is a history book. Overall very little could be considered historical. How me make this determination of historicity is quite a different question them the one you posed here.

Sure truth can come from many sources. But again I suspect that was a rhetorical question intended to imply that the Bible is true. How we gauge what is true or not is again quite different. In that many times the context of the Bible has utterly failed to reveal factual statements.

An attempt to appeal to emotion. Just because the Bible elicits certain emotion responses from you and others holds no bearing to its factuality.

Actually the good advise is pretty generic stuff. This also ignores that the Bible is also loaded with some incredibly horrific advise. Since it covers an entire spectrum of both good and bad it fails to be a guide.
Put aside what you might think is there, and read it with clearer vision.
From a Christian this is usually a request that we read it with a bias view, cherry picking the good parts and ignore or excusing away the bad.
I do Believe in the Bible to be true work of god.
I'm tempted to ask what the basis of this belief is, but given past experience I would wager that it's just faith based, or you're using some subjective experience that could very well be misleading.
I agree very strongly with liberal Christians. People who read the Bible and take the meanings of the parables (Jesus' stories such as the good Samaritan) and other teachings in the Bible as stories instead of believing they actually happened.
Some Christians say that you have to believe in the stories if you believe in God but there are many Christians who disagree such as the Arch-Bishop of Buckingham (large potion of south East England) who says that the creation story is a Jewish myth.
More liberal Christians such as Protestants and Quakers believe in following Jesus' example. Agape is the unconditional love that Jesus had for everyone and they follow that.

That guy in Norway who shot 80 kids. Crusaders. The Taliban/Al-Queda. Hitler. There are tons more.

Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman are probably my favorites on the list of skeptics.

Mostly oxygen, carbon, and hydrogen.

That's pretty subjective and varies by culture/society. Overall, I suppose a good one is one who causes the least problems for others.
