Well, the previous months old Presidential thread has been relegated to the Old News Dump, so I've decided to start a new one, especially because of events that have come to pass since the last time we discussed the issue, such as Gingrich's slump, and Santorum's surge.
So anyway, what is your take on the current race? Why are Gingrich and Paul still attempting to compete when they're chances are all but dashed? Even Santorum has such a slim chance mathematically of accruing all the necessary delegates. But his upset wins especially in the South have shown how Romney still has not gotten the support of important sections of the Republican electorate; in almost all states he has won, he has gotten lukewarm support.
So, any predictions on this rather humorous race?
And before I forget to throw in the customary dig at Santorum; Santorum to all those who don't know, has another meaning since 2003, one that more aptly suits him. I'm sure all of you know what is.
I don't know that I find it so humorous. Any election that would seriously consider placing a man like Santorum as the most powerful person in the free world horrifies me. I almost (but not quite) want the slippery senator to win the primary, because I think Obama would stand a better chance against him. However, even that possibility puts him too close to office for my comfort. My distaste for him isn't a sudden feeling, either...I'm apparently from the colon of the country...you know, the place that shot him onto the national scene?
Anyway, I think Romney is the lesser of two evils, and Obama is the least of the three.
As far as I can tell, Ron and Newt have no real shot at winning now. paul would beat obama, but no mainstream person would ever vote for him. Gingrich is a total nut-job, and he keeps proving it to the world by still thinking he will win.
Romney is the only real one with the ability to win, but I still think obama will win the election due to the fact that the US experienced a recovery under his supervision (because people still think the president can control the free market).
as for santorum, he must think his shoe is made of chocolate, because he keeps putting his foot in his mouth. the best example of this is telling puerto-ricans that the only way to become a state is by "adhering to federal law" and speak english only. I believe the election will end with santorum losing in disgrace.

Ah yes, the definition that Dan savage gave him after sparking up a massive internet campaign due to the fact that the senator compared homosexuality to beastiality. believe me, you really shouldn't google it.

I'm the guy who started the porn thread. This is small fry. Heh.

I feel exactly like you. Romney stands a better chance against Obama which makes Santorum a strategical choice, but it's rather risky..
I'm actually amused at how the Republicans eat each others nose in this kindergarten dispute. The less they are united, the less they stand a chance. But it makes me worry for the US in the case that one of them wins, seeing as how Bush is called a democrat compared to that bunch...
I think Romney still has the best chances out of all republican candidates, the others might still be running and getting votes but ultimately they're only making it harder for Romney to establish his presence, they don't stand a real chance.
Mitt Romney will probably win the Republican Party's presidential nomination. However, he is a pretty anemic candidate. Romney is still routinely losing seven of 10 Republicans. And that is with a weak field. Its not like the Republicans have an extraordinary strong line-up. We have to remember that Santorum, who was polling at 2 percent in November is now the last "serious" anti-Romney candidate. As a matter of fact, the 2-percent-candidate has managed to win 10 states! And that's clearly not because of Santorum's charisma, it's due to Romney's obvious weakness. Romney has barely broken 50 percent in just four states! Frankly, that's pretty pathetic.
Anyway, the "Anyone but Obama" approach is a losing strategy, since negative premises almost always produce sub-par candidates. Honestly, I'm willing to bet that Obama will win.

I laughed.
I honestly think that Mitt will win the primary, simply because he is the one that Republicans are going to "rally around" while hating him due to the fact that they just want Obama out. I'm curious to see what macfan thinks about this...

$20 says he'll go for santorum due to his religious devotion (but I might lose this one because the senator is catholic, and macfan seems to hate catholics)
I'm almost sure Romney will win, not because he's smart and good with words, it's just everyone else likes the taste of their shoe a little bit more than him. (Especially Gingrich, he seems to be addicted, time for an Intervention) It seems like every time a party has more than two candidates, it's purely to make up for sub-standard political skills inequally divide between the bunch. Quality over quantity people.
The Republicans all have Foot-In-Mouth Disorder to be frank. I think though that the weaker the Primary the better though.

But it's to the point where if you vote for anyone besides Santorum or Romney it's a waste of a vote. And Mr. Feetie would be more likely to fail after the Primary. So follow his lead and let's spray our shoes with Chocolate Axe!

Their willpower is to weak, it won't matter.

I know, it's like watching Jerry Springer on a new channel and their wearing suits.

That was one of my favorite threads.

They also share foot-in-mouth. Birds of a feather flock together!
Why are Gingrich and Paul still attempting to compete when they're chances are all but dashed?
Gingrich is hoping something happens causing Romney or Santorum to drop out. He's already spent 20 million on his campaign. Paul wants to keep spreading his views, getting his message public.
Romney will likely win the nomination, but will likely still lose to Obama.
I live in Pennsylvania and I've met Rick Santorum back when he was a senator. I spoke to him about some bill in the senate that I didn't support. He just stood there and agreed with me and said he didn't support the bill either. The snake later voted for the bill. I'm not against him purely for political reasons but because he's a two faced liar.

I just snorted when you wrote that. If he hated catholics he'd be begging me to kick a few of my clan members out. Anyway, if you won or lost how are you supposed to exchange the money with the person who won?
Here's what i think, i know this cuz i HAVE to watch fox news all day XD
So 1. Paul and Gingrich are out, they have little hope ( i wanted Gingrich) 2. Santorum and Romney are battling it out. Romney is having more luck but is getting beat down cuz he voted for Obamacare, which was dumb. Santorum is slowing falling out but he still has a very good chance. Now, with no Gingrich, idk who i want to win, i'm too young to vote, good cuz i have no idea WHO to vote for XD

...what do you mean exchange money? candidates don't exchange money with eachother (unless it's a bribe to motivate people to quit the race).

you do realize that fox news is really biased, and filled with fools, right? the better place to get political coverage is on either NPR, CNN, or C-Span (if you are desperate).
Romney is having more luck but is getting beat down cuz he voted for Obamacare,
actually, he didn't vote for it, obama modeled his plan after romney's health care plan in massachusetts.
idk who i want to win, i'm too young to vote, good cuz i have no idea WHO to vote for XD
simple, vote for romney (if anybody). he has the best shot, and he seems the least crazy of all of the people running for presidency.
Why are Gingrich and Paul still attempting to compete when they're chances are all but dashed?
You just keep on trying 'till you run out of cake.
When most candidates run for president, they tend to persuade people to support they (the candidate) themselves. They convince people that they're the best choice as president by making promises that appeal to the people. The people vote for the candidate who's promises benefit them the most. When most candidates run for president, they only talk about the things that they feel the majority of voters want. The only thing that limits their lies is their image, which they protect by avoiding and ignoring many important issues. Other times they feed the people soap, tell them what they want to hear, and they speak vaguely as to hope that they aren't busted on their lies.
Ron Paul speaks an ideology that is consistent. He doesn't pick and choose which topics appeal to the people at the time, he is open about everything. Where one candidate may keep their mouths closed on an issue so that they don't tarnish their image, Ron Paul speaks his mind. Ron Paul tells the truth as he sees it. Whether you agree with Ron Paul or not, there is no denying that Ron Paul is the most honest candidate.
When a candidate runs for president, then loses, they leave without leaving any imprint on the people. When Ron Paul runs for president, then loses, he actually persuades people to adopt a new political ideology.
In short, Ron Paul is probably the only candidate who actually convinces people to question their political ideas, whereas other politicians merely try to play off of them. Ron Paul continues to run for president not only in hopes that he'll someday become the president, but to spread his ideas.
