I was inspired to make this thread with the recent (read: announced about an hour ago) British High Court decision to force ISPs to block The Pirate Bay in the UK.

But, the thing is, that's not the only example that has come to the fore in recent years and months. There's been SOPA, ACTA, CISPA and a variety of other pieces of legislation in different countries that seem to reflect a worrying trend - that being the control, filtering and censorship of the internet by the West. Now, as a collective, we've always been against the so-called 'Great Firewall of China' and the other forms of censoring that Eastern nations have used... yet now we seem to be employing them ourselves.

What are your views on such attempts to control the internet?
Are they overt assassinations of citizens freedom or merely a tool to help save and protect the industries which are being brutally stolen from by pirates?

Hmm.

Nope, your really not interested are you?

The link was to obviously prove that the police can stop and search people anywhere in public. Set police up everywhere. Search everyone. While your at it have a pen drive reader handy so you can check usb sticks for pirate copies in the same way handbags are searched for weapons. Catch all the wrongdoers.

And yes, I think its safe to assume your views on this subject because you argue to the point of personal insults. If you shared the same views as me on censorship you wouldnt be doing that.

Do you agree that censorship is wrong?

Would I? I thought you said you knew me.

Do you agree that censorship is wrong?

Yes. Do you agree that stealing is wrong?

Do you agree that stealing is wrong?

No. I believe stealing has many moral grey areas. I explained this already.

Why are you asking? Its not because you want to know my answer. What is your point in being in this entire discussion. As I said, Id rather learn from people and there is no learning coming from you.

If my previous posts have not answered this already and shown in many ways how I feel on the issue, then I dont see what possible answer I can give you.

Heres a fun game. Why dont you tell me what you think my answer will be.

Would "No" work?

Close enough.

If you believe censorship is bad, why do you argue with a narrow mind? Surely as someone with brainz you should have a responsibility to stand up on common ground with your fellow humans! I have repetedly shown you to use illogical arguments that have no bearing on reality and that you argue one point and one point only, yet you still come trollin back. You have literally derailed this whole thread. 314d1 how do you plead!

Great to know we can actually answer each other's questions and actually read what we wrote now.

If you believe censorship is bad, why do you argue with a narrow mind?

Am I? Because we are not talking about censorship, we are talking about piracy.

Surely as someone with brainz you should have a responsibility to stand up on common ground with your fellow humans!

Of course, and pay for the services they provide me. Why should they develop games for years just to have them pirated?

I have repetedly shown you to use illogical arguments that have no bearing on reality and that you argue one point and one point only, yet you still come trollin back.

That is funny, I was thinking the same thing about you. Isn't it funny how everyone thinks they win in a debate like this?

You have literally derailed this whole thread.

Name one post before my first post that didn't mention piracy.

314d1 how do you plead!

Last I checked, your the one who admitted to committing a crime. I was the one who was denouncing it.

Yes.

Because we are not talking about censorship, we are talking about piracy.

I need to remind you of the OP :

Growing internet censorship in Western nations

Name one post before my first post that didn't mention piracy.

Yeah, theres my problem. Your talking about piracy, Im trying to talk about censorship. So Id rather we talked about censorship.

Isn't it funny how everyone thinks they win in a debate like this?

Is that how you see this? It really figures. Im trying to teach my son that the worlds not an argument to be won. Looks like you need a lesson in this too.

The way I see this is, because its the pirate bay your saying that the censorship is ok. What Im saying is, as can be shown in the past, that this is merely part of a wedge of censorship that has been insidiously made and will continue.

What are your views on such attempts to control the internet?

money, power and control over others.

Are they overt assassinations of citizens freedom or merely a tool to help save and protect the industries which are being brutally stolen from by pirates?

it is about stealing your/our internet privacy and about protecting industries to make these industries rich.

I don't remember saying anything about the OP. I just said we are talking about piracy. Where we, or won't we?

Yeah, theres my problem. Your talking about piracy, Im trying to talk about censorship. So Id rather we talked about censorship.

You where talking about piracy until just a second ago.

Is that how you see this? It really figures. Im trying to teach my son that the worlds not an argument to be won. Looks like you need a lesson in this too.

Ironic how you just went around yelling "I BEAT YOU! YES, I TOTALLY WON THAT ARGUMENT!"? Do you need to teach yourself the lesson first?

The way I see this is, because its the pirate bay your saying that the censorship is ok

Which is right. I think killing is bad, but I think it is ok when it is soldiers fighting. Didn't you just say that laying a blanket statement like that is foolish?

What Im saying is, as can be shown in the past, that this is merely part of a wedge of censorship that has been insidiously made and will continue.

Yes, that area "In the past", the one that you have not yet brought up any examples of. Of course. And it will continue, since this unique example that has nothing to do with anything else and is trying to stop a crime has so much to do with everything else.

money, power and control over others.

If it loses them money, then why should it be aloud?

it is about stealing your/our internet privacy and about protecting industries to make these industries rich.

How is blocking piracy taking your privacy away from you? Is protecting the citizens and their industry a bad thing?
