Depends on what type of 80's music we're talking about. It's was a godawful time for popular music. Cheesy synth-pop, Hair-Metal, and atrocious production. For underground music, it's was a different thing.
I effing love cheesy 80's pop. Melodramatic love ballads sung by hairy dudes, with synth hooks and those processed 80's drums? Those were the days.
Say what you will, pop music doesn't have the same standards for hooks that it used to have. This dance music fad puts out music so mindless, it's almost not meant for listening, just moving your body to.
The Cars, The Bangles, Madonna when she was hot, the hot babes from Bananarama in the video clip Venus, Sade, great rock ballads! 3 hours of non stop video music on TV late in the week-ends (before MTV ruined it). The 80's were the best years of my life! xD
I don't think I could possibly agree with you less, there. Although there were a fair amount of boring pop songs out there, there were more great pop songs from that decade than from any other time in history (care to contradict that?).
The people who believe the 80's were all about Michael Jackson and Madonna really need to get out of their caves and listen to some real 80's music.
I have to side with Ernie and disagree to the fullest extend of my possibilities!!!
The 80's were a decade that spawned more decent enjoyable music in any genre of music than any other decade has! Just look at the way other decades are remembered and reffered to compared to "The 80's"?! No period has such a ringgg to it as that period has! =)
And that period in the history of music is best remembered for the equal popularity of several genres at the same time. Name your Pop, Rock, Hip-Hop, Rap, Breakdancing, New Wave, Punk, Heavy Metal, heck... even a lot of Disco if you listen to songs from the beginning of the decade! What more diversity could you possibly want and need?! =D
The 80's ruled and still pawn any other decade! No doubt about that!
heck... even a lot of Disco if you listen to songs from the beginning of the decade!
A lot of British pop songs from the mid-80s have a beat resembling an "evolved" form of disco! Some of my favorites that fall under this category include "Let Me Go" by Heaven 17, "The Promise" by When In Rome, and who could forget the legendary "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" by Dead or Alive!
No matter how advanced or ambiguous it might get, I love disco the disco beat in all forms!
I loved the classical music with disco beat like Hooked on classics and The 5th of Beethoven! xD I said it before but I say it again, The Bangles were great and 2 of them were hot! Remember Susanna Hoffs wearing a skirt and playing the electric guitar? OMG, gimme a Hot Tub Time Machine!
