What did you expect? I would assume that you couldn't put up to much of a garrison or that would be suspicious, he didn't know that the elite SEALS team was going to attack? They had the advantage of surprise, numbers, equipment and really everything. It would have been more surprising if he managed to do anything significant before he died.

That is probably true. So why would he lie about it in the first place? If it was found, it defiantly would hinder his reelection, which if he was trying to get according to you. So why would he gamble his reelection on this? Maybe might getting more likely to get reelected, or defiantly not getting elected if he was found out?

Anyways, I can think of some reasons why they would lie. To protect Osama if he was not in fact dead, to make the U.S look foolish if it ever came to light, and just to be bothersome.
Not that I think he is alive, that the Taliban is lying about him being dead, or that the U.S Military is incompetent enough to not be able to identify Osama, or that they would have a reason to lie about it.
