The mayan calendar does not say the world is going to end in 2012. Science has evidence to back up their predictions.

Not for definite, no. But we can take an educated guess and come up with a theory

Well we don't need "educated guesses" when trying to refutate (made up word to the rescue!) a young earth

Oh God don't even bring that up[ so many people say so much different stuff about 2012, it's so annoying.

You brought it up, I'm pointing out the flaw in saying the mayans predicted the world will end.

And what flaw would that be?

That their calendar does not say the world will end, it says it will change.

Just to put this calendar stuff to rest.

December 20 2012 CE will be 12.19.19.17.19 and December 21st 2012 CE will be (shock horror) 13.0.0.0.0. - the completion of one "Grand Cycle". According to the Mayan creation myth, we are living in the "4th world". The third is said to have ended on 12.19.19.17.19, and likewise, according to the apocalyptomaniacs, will the fourth. For some reason, however, the Mayans thought it was important enough to record events, such as eclipses, that would occur after December 21st 2012 CE, so they didn't seem worried. In fact the Mayans had a unit of time alautun which corresponds to about 63 million years, or 1.0.0.0.0.0.0.0 on the Long Count (told you they were pedantic).

How about... a bit of both?

Care to explain?

My opinion is that it is a mixture of both, because after all, we had to have come from somewhere, but like all living things, we adapted and evolved to strive in any environment. The major flaw in this standpoint is that creationism is not specifically defined, meaning it could be from the very creations of our souls to the natural cycle of life.

Anyone care to explain how the figure the earth is 6000 years old? Especially when we can date the Chinese civilization back 7000 years.

Actually the biblical timeline from creation to present day is around ten-thousand years and could represent the beginnings of the Jewish culture in the middle east allowing for the bible and evolution to, once again, co-exist.

No it wouldn't. 10,000 years is not enough time for a species to evolve into a different one. You may get environmental adaptation within that time - of course down to natural selection and survival of the fittest, but not a completely separate species. In 10,000 years you could say - domesticate a wolf into a pet dog but you couldn't get Birds from pterosaurs.

Well that doesn't really matter because species don't evolve, now does it?

End Christian snobbishness

I meant that the "creation" of the world would actually represent the creation of Jewish (or all middle Eastern) cultures which occured around ten-thousand years.

Yes Cinna, we're going to be dogs in 10 million years. Well done.
