It seems like the age of the CD is coming close to an end.
Anybody here still go out and buy CDs?
I try to buy them whenever I get the chance.
Around here I have easy access to tons of CDs, so... usually I hear of a band and go check it on youtube, or browse in youtube anyway, and then listen to a few songs. If I like them I start listening to more songs, regularly. And if I like them enough I buy a CD.
For me a CD is just so much more practical in the long term.. if you have your PC full of mp3 data, good luck with copying that to your new machine. And if you have everything in iTunes, like me, you're glad you have the CDs because transferring your iTunes from one PC to another sucks.
It's a sort of back-up. Also I simply like to possess the CD and not the data, it's so more appealing to my materialistic collectionist spirit doesn't it look nice when you have a shelf rack full of CDs?
Of course in that sense vinyls are certainly even more appealing, I simply never got into it due to it not being popular anymore when I was small... nice to see they're coming back though!

Even the starting up (spinning) of a CD is something you'll never hear when playing an MP3, as it is replaced with the 1,5 minute (minimum) waiting period of your computer starting up... by the time you get around to having found the song and press play, you'll be finished with the song on your CD player! HA! =P
I remember spending 2 1/2 hours to record 90 mins from my vinyl collection onto tape. Now it still takes as long but I can edit the songs, remove the pops, clicks and scratches, background noise,
Best of course would be to have the original vinyl recordings put on CD's with their quailty! That would be 2 for the price of one in this happy marriage! =D
I like to listen to Classical music, but pretty rarely to be honest... I own several Classical CD's, but they are practically in a fresh new state as I prefer listening to Rock music instead! And those are pretty worn down... LOL =P
i havent bought a CD sense i was 8 (now im 18) CD's became what cassette tapes became when CD's came out they are out dated, old,no one buys em anymore,ECT. and why buy CD's? its much easier to just buy the songs off itunes the ones you want to listen only (not buy a whole cd with only 3 songs u want from it) and plus you can burn your own cd's with that music :P so cd albums are useless
They probably are. But there is nothing like the feeling of getting to the store early in the morning to pick up the new album of your favorite band on the first release day, then taking that album home, taking off the shrink- wrap, going through the album artwork, and slamming it into your boom box.

Here's a graphical representation of a song on CD with true stereo:
D=drummer, G=guitar, B=base guitar, LS= lead singer.
*****D*****
*G*******B*
****LS*****
The drummer is behind, the two guitars are in front of the drum and each sides behind the lead singer, and the lead singer is in front of everybody.
Now here's what happens when your song is in MP3 format with joint stereo:
*G**LS*D*B*
Everybody is in front and they sound weird, flat and mono!
If you can't hear the difference when you listen to it then just ignore my explanation. xD
I think downloading music through the internet is just ripping off artist. If you use iTunes then I respect you. Most of my friends just download songs off some music sharing website to save a few dollars. If you really like the artist then show them respect by actually buying their album, they don't cost much anyway.
I like the physical aspect of the CD. I love reading the booklet and artwork. As the music ages, so does the CD. I just love that.
