Thanks for all your suggestions guys! I'd like to inform you the game design of S&S2 is pretty much done, and I'm glad to tell you that LOT of stuff you mentioned will be in the game
That doesn't include multiplayer, which is impossible for us to make right now.
Here is a short list of the game features:
- World map of the Neverseen to explore. Main path + other side quests locations.
- Town to build and upgrade. Cool NPC to discover and interact with. (Blacksmith, alchemist, in keeper, other weirdos...)
- More dynamic combat system (real time dodge, block, counter, critical, etc.)
- More interesting enemies: attack patterns, abilities and Epic Boss Fight!
- Deeper Hero customization (Male/Female, More skins, skills, abilities, equipment, stats, etc.)
- Evolution in Training mini game with more features to unlock as you progress, more missions, medals, etc.
- 6 Different weapons class to upgrade/equip/loot individually.
- Unique Armor system to collect and upgrade.
- Awesome art and animations improvement
- Pets to catch and rich ally system, they will help you in fights.
- Secrets hidden in the dark...
- TONS of other stuff we want to add if we have time

You've got a smooth-running, addictive game. Love it. I like how you'll upgrade in training even if a mission in there seems a bit too hard at the time. Keeps the rage-quit away.

Anyway, here are some ideas:

1. Story. Just 1-2 flash images every 5 battles or so is plenty. Here are some concepts.
a. Revenge: You used to be a ruler in another kingdom 'till it got sacked. Now, a slave in the fighting pits, you rise in the ranks until your position as a free noble enables you to take on your enemies.
b. You're raising money to rebuild your town by fighting in the capital. Your winnings help you upgrade the shop, museum, home, townsfolk, etc. The upgrades update the map and give you combat bonuses.
c. You love a lady soul. Papa-in-law soul says 'no way'. You'll show him you've got what it takes by beating every fighter in the arena he owns.

2. Vary the battle backgrounds (either different arena or different decor)
3. Scarecrow gets funnier/fiercer. Each new milestone in the training room means he tries to hit you with progressively more dangerous things (swimming noodle, fly swatter, whip, shovel, poleaxe - or apple, rocks, wrench [if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball - achievement])
4. You have to upgrade the museum, shop, and your house - and all give passive bonuses when you do it.
5. The map updates based on whether you travel to a different place, or how much conflict is affecting the story line.
6. Museum, shop, training, arena - each have at least one person/soul with a speech bubble near them. Whenever you achieve a milestone in that respective place, those characters say something different/funny to reflect what you've done. This makes players curious to keep playing and see what crazy things they'll say next.
7. There is no weapon on God's green earth more potent than the rubber duck. I feel it hasn't been given the prominence it deserves as the ideal projectile. Needs to be cartoonishly larger!
8. Shield training missions (esp. Combo) a little overpowered. Maybe tone it down a little. It seems nearly impossible past 75 or so... maybe it's just me.
9. Sound effects change for key weapons. The buster swords should sound much more intimidating when it hits than the stick. They don't all have to be different - even if only the best weapons sounded different, that would rock.
10. Sound effects X2: Arena audience reactions to your hits, wins, losses. Just audio. Everyone should boo you in the beginning, then you win them over. Combine that with the build-your-town idea and the upgraded town sends more people to cheer you, giving you +0.1% to every thing per level (assuming there's 200 levels or so).
