yeh being defensive is not the best for that game, unlike ETW, but that's a different thread

It's always a bummer when you're one turn away from capturing the town, for an enemy army to land next to you.

I find RTW to be easy to defend... I also prefer RTW over the others because of all the unique abilities, like Phaylanx, Testeudo, Warcry, etc.

but out on teh field, getting attacked by a large army, generally means death (unless your army is equally large or high end units)

Tactic > Army number,unless you are automatically resolving your every battle.

On the other hand,my chicken tactic,was sticking all my troops on the battlefield border,killing a few,if it doesn`t work out,withdraw.

oi i mean like a 5:1 or higher outnumber, it's why i was sad there weren't field defenses

i will usually either do a battle of attrition (especially if i'm on BI) or just commence in a standard fight to the death (walk, charge and hope to jeebus your formation holds)

I once defended a settlement with a depleted Hoplite Mercenary unit, two Merc Peltasts, One velite unit, and a hastati with one man in it XD. Plus my general. Won against 1300-1500 enemies XD

Depends heavily on your walls too.

any faction with hoplites are ridiculously good
but romans are also amazingly good, great defence reasonable attack and amazing morale.

Post Reform Romans are just overpowered. They kind of spoil the game for the rest of the factions!
