Aliens are not real. What people think are aliens are really just humans from the future in their time machines. That is my theory at least and I am sticking to it.

Or what we see has been a series of mistaken identities, hoaxes and conspiracy theories.
There is a possibility for life that has evolved past bacteria (I'm talking Humanoid'ish type organisms with our caliber intelligence) to exist on other planets. The possibility of them interacting with us, however, is very small. Not only do they have to be equal to us, they have to surpass our intelligence and ingenuity by light-years. Unless the ship is made out of material that can take impacts equivalent to or greater than something like 12 nuclear warheads again and again then going light speed isn't going to do much for you. I've read somewhere that when you are going that fast that even the tiniest grain of sand/debris in your way will make a huge impact (not to mention the ones the size of Texas). I'm not an expert, but you'd have to accommodate for that and/or develop stargate'esque portals to take that out of the equation all together... meaning you'd have to be able to manipulate the fabric of existence to do it. I'd think that you'd have to be somewhere first to set up said portals before you could use them... maybe you could just tell the other side where to appear? ...that being said... They'd have to be able to travel light years to get here, and we haven't figured it out yet. Maybe they have figured it out, and they're waiting on us to develop the tech ourselves...like so many video games and tv shows picture it.
...but I just heard that from someone else talking. Other people here (Mage maybe... you're the local Star wars/Star trek fanatic) might be able to refute some of that.
i think when you get yourself to lightspeed, you just end up being light. i don't think molecules can handle that speed and it will just fall apart intill it's light. (just a theory)

We wouldn't be able to travel at light speed. We could possibly reach speeds close to it or circumvent such issues such as moving space instead, in which case we wouldn't really have to worry about running into anything as we would have essentially our own pocket of space to exist in. Though besides that even high subliminal speeds would require shielding of some sort. But we will likely require shielding for spacecraft anyway for other things like radiation.

No you wouldn't become light. light is electromagnetic radiation part of the electromagnetic force which it's carrier is the photon.
'How to manage with the principle of inertia while jump procedure ?' part bugs me actually.
A slow enough build up to the optimal speed would be one way to handle this. Or develop sci-fi's favorite work around the inertia dampener. Using cheats like warping space in some way such as a worm hole or "warp drive" we wouldn't have to worry about this as from our perspective we wouldn't actually be moving.
I would like to see this sci-fi technology achieved. But if there is an alien invasion to steal and comprehending their technology in a couple of years, and start to evacuate mankind while facing near extintion of the life in earth, also provided us being alive in that time. There you go, per chance maybe.
Here's a gif I found on the internet that is somewhat related to our interests. I just thought it did a decent job of putting a few things in perspective. (you don't see gifs here all that often... but Cormyn once told me that the administration has never restricted animated gifs so I believe it's ok)
It is highly probable that there are bacteria and things of that sort somewhere else (at least ONE somewhere else)... but if the amount of matter in the universe is limited and there wasn't anything else put into existence in this universe aside from the "big bang" then there is a chance that our planet is the only one with complex "sentient" life. I mean there might just be some space government out there waiting on us to develop some kind of tech, but I kinda doubt it. I don't deny the possibility for either argument. I just haven't seen too much proof of those "robing" aliens we hear so much about.
