Good morning, and welcome to the fourth installment of the Anthill RPG series!
I am your host, Nilo the Ant.

This is the thread in which the RPG will take place in, the In-Character thread. The OOC (out of character) thread can be found here.

This thread will be open for all purposes related to the RPG, except questions about rules and such. If you have a question please write it in my profile as a comment, here.

The Technology tree can be found here.

The map will be constantly updated, I think we all know why.

I start the research on Fire, I then send out a team to find the people who scouted the surrounding lands. I then send a team to find a way that has no mantises. I also look for weak mantise outposts. I'd like a desc. of my defenses, I then tell the rest of soldiers to collect wood and improve our defenses.

TURN 4 - Next deadline: July 27, 12:01 PM

"This way. Yes, this is the way." The leader of the group advanced through the maze of tunnels, torch in hand. He was a medium-sized tarantula, dressed in a ragged violet cloak over iron armor that was of great make, but somewhat rusted. His sword was put away in its scabbard, bow and quiver on his back. He was leading a group of four tarantulas, five with him.

"We've been here for days." said a smaller voice "When are we actually going to get out of this **** place?"

"Dunno." was the reply from the leader. He seemed to be awful sure of himself, however, unlike his reply. "Do you smell that?" He asked the others. "We're near the exit."

He was right. Twenty meters from the small group, there was natural light. A human could have traversed this distance in half a minute, but it was a long journey for a tarantula. However, the leader turned out to be right, there was an opening nearby. One after another, the small company left the tunnel.

"Well, we're almost there." Said one of the companions "I can see the gatehouse, even from here." Some three-hundred meters from where they were standing was indeed a city with a rather large gatehouse. From here, it seemed a petty thing with smaller walls. But as they approached, the fortifications of the town showed their true size.

The city of Stroud had not survived hundreds of assaults from mantises and tarantulas alike out of sheer luck. Its walls rivaled those of many other cities that were considered greater. The city was built on top of a great hill with natural walls. On top of this gift of nature, ant-made walls were built. Of solid rock, the walls were strong indeed. It was, however, quite apparent that they had seen better days. Places where stones had been hurled at the walls had been filled with mortar rather than built again, several battlements had fallen off and been replaced with wooden planks. Mosses and plants covered a large part of the walls.

Inside the great walls, there was the town. The inhabitants lived in average conditions, neither rich nor poor. Most were ants, however, a small population of brown spiders lived there as well.. These spiders had been refugees from a nearby town that had been sacked by the mantises. The brown spiders had been forced to live in squalor and poverty, however. This was the reason the tarantulas were here. They approached the Gate of the Moon, the southernmost gate. It led directly to the Brown District.

The tarantulas had, however, dyed themselves brown to appear to be normal brown spiders. They were young tarantulas, and as such, not of great size. They passed the gates, guarded by strong ants-men, without coincidence. Inside, the terrible conditions became apparent. The brown spiders had many diseases, and many were near death. The leader smiled.

"Let's get to business, gents!" he said to the other tarantulas. They smiled back.

Inside the Queen's chamber, you find lots of bodies. Most of them belong to her bodyguard, the toughest bees of the hive. The others belong to lesser bees, who were probably in the wrong place at the wrong time. Shuffling the bodies, you see that there is more toxin in this area than in the last, which probably means that in this place the fighting was fiercer. There is no sign of the queen or her corpse.

However, you notice that something is wrong with one of the purple puddles. It seems as if something heavy had been dragged through it. Where it ends, there is a large hole in the nest that leads to a nearby branch. The queen was a large creature, but not nearly as big as what seems to have been dragged through this place.

You are suddenly disturbed by one of your bees, who barges in and says rapidly.

"Sir. We have found a survivor."

The enemy army collapses upon itself after your rapid charge, and scarce amounts of them start a rout. Claws and stones crash against each other for the rest of the day until what is left of the enemy army retreats in a somewhat orderly manner towards their own anthill and barricades the entrance. Only half of the enemy army remains.

That night, there is celebration in your army. There is song and drink, and taunts towards the enemy, and canticles praising your deeds in battle.

"As you wish, sire!" Cry your men as they prepare the pompous and massive banquet that will take place that night. Shortly afterwards, a Night Ant caravan approaches. Their leader, wearing a great purple cloak and a golden crown, is at the front, riding next to his counselor and his lieutenant. They are followed by his greatest men and women, all of which are dressed in rich and beautiful garments.

The Night Ant king accepts your offer most graciously and shakes your hand. "It is an honor to meet you, lord of the Liverpool."

(you need to research other technologies before you can research fire).

"Sir, we have found that there is a way to the west of here. But to the North there are mantises, and to the south and east there is water. There are no mantis outposts near the keep, they usually stay North of the Thames by what intelligence we have managed to collect."

(you cannot yet collect wood) but your soldiers construct a minor dirt wall around the keep. It has small dirt mounds that will serve as towers, but the walls themselves confer some advantage to those defending it.

Your soldiers go away, looking for the others. Two days later, the soldiers who went away to look for the others return. "Sir. We have found them. But not alive."

Keep Defenses: Dirt Wall (Petty)

I make the soldiers reinforce the wall by putting in more dirt and maybe some mud. I then send scouting parties to go to the west, I also try to improve the settlements of my city. I put up parades and such to show our military strength to the people, I also ask them to tell me any of their troubles. I order some soldiers to build little settlements by the water in the south and east. If any bases are located to the west we request ally.

Could you explain what you are trying to do with this? I just want to be sure before anything happens. Are you mad because you didn't post before the deadline, are you trying to be humorous, or are you trying to carry out your part in the RPG in a rather peculiar way? In any case, I'm using my powers as Ant God to veto this action until it is properly explained.

Good luck with your RPG

I am quitting this RPG due to unreliable internet. I may miss 4-5 days in a row suddenly.

That was a link to a real fungi which controls ants.
Since I cannot control them , they are crazy zombie NPCs.

TURN 5 - Next deadline: July 29, 12:01 PM

Arrows rained on the advancing force of Tarantulas. Some of them crashed harmlessly against the dirt, but most found flesh and were stuck in it. The first assault of the Tarantula force on Requiem had begun, a screen of criminals and prisoners forced to rush before the main Tarantula force to distract the Mantises inside and make the same waste their arrows.

After the utter destruction of this pathetic force, the main force of the Tarantulas advanced. They were grim and strong, with crude iron armor and weaponry. Most carried enormous longswords, several centimeters in length. Others wielded smaller weapons and shields, and some carried the proud banners of the Tarantuleans. This force was the brunt of the - arguably - strongest fighting force in Britain, the army of Cardiff. Tens of thousands of tarantulas advanced in no particular formation approaching the city walls. They stopped a couple of meters away from the walls, just out of the reach of the Mantis arrows.

Then, the Siege Towers advanced. Great beasts pulled on great chains to allow them to move forward, because the siege towers were ridiculously large (like the walls of Requiem). As they advanced, large stones were exchanged between the Mantises and Tarantulas, cast from catapults and trebuchets. A stone crashed against the strong walls of Requiem, and bounced away with little visible effect. Another managed to hit the battlements, and several Mantises were crushed under its great weight. A rather large stone was thrown from a catapult, and crashed against a siege tower. Thunderous was its collapse, many of the attackers being splattered under the massive thing.

After this memorable experience, a couple of siege towers reached the walls. The soldiery of the Tarantulas advanced, hard boots crashing against the ground and destroying any life in it. Arrows once again fell thick from the sky. Shields were raised in silly attempts at protecting their wielder from damage, whilst other soldiers raced on, careless. A decent part of the force reached the walls, and constructed a makeshift parapet next to it, where they waited. Inside the siege towers, a great number of Tarantulas was present already, the same which were about to attack the walls.

"Captain Verulus!" cried a Mantis as it ran towards the most renowned general of the Mantis army, Captain Verulus. "The enemy has reached the walls, and the siege tâ¦"
"I'm not dumb, Jon." the Captain interrupted. "I can very well see what's going on. Come, we must go."
The Captain rushed out of the Gatehouse, Jon following clumsily. Swords unsheathed, many of their kin were already preparing for the imminent battle. At one point, there was a small bulge outwards in the wall. Here was a great siege-tower covered in wet skins, arrows sticking harmlessly all through it. There, the Captain stopped. He addressed his soldiers in a short and pointless speech, before he drew his sword and waited.

The first drawbridge was lowered. A plethora of Tarantulas rushed forward, falling on top of the Mantises that had been expecting the moment. Blows were exchanged by the two forces as a constant stream of enemies rushed out of the siege tower and into the walls. In the massive confusion that the battle soon became, a small force of tarantulas advanced from the Tarantula camp. They had a strange black sphere with two handles, and carried it eagerly. The archers distracted on the men atop the walls, they reached a part of the wall a distance from the Gatehouse. Dropping their load, they smiled.

One of them lit a torch and threw it against the sphere.

Moments later, a great section of the wall had collapsed, the thunderous explosion having destroyed all around it. Heavy bricks flew into all directions as if they were rain, crashing into the heads of dazzled soldiers.

"What manner of devilry is that?" cried the mantises from their walls. "Have the Tarantulas signed a pact of friendship with the Devil?"

A massive force of Tarantulas that had not advanced earlier rushed forth now. No arrows flew to greet them. No taunts were heard. Only the clash of iron and steel. No enemy was expecting them after the wall. They ran.

On the ground lies a small bee, in a weak and sad state. It breathes with difficulty, making a soft and quiet sound. After you ask your question, the bee looks at you and says with a weary voice:
"Cardiffâ¦tarantulasâ¦dead." then, the bee is silent. It remains alive, but immobile. Could the tarantulas have attacked the nest? and why would such a great empire bother to destroy such a small hive?

Your soldiers and you ride away in Grasshoppers, following the scent of the strange creature. After ten minutes of riding through the thick and unforgiving grass, you notice that there is a campfire nearby, in a clearing. Two of your men dismount and silently creep away to investigate such a strange thing.

They return a couple of moments later. "Sir. We have found our kidnapped men. But with them are three tarantulas, hideous creatures of the west. Several of our kinsmen appear to be dead, and are about to be eaten by the vile creatures, but some appear to be alive and are, in vain, struggling to escape. What are your orders, sire?"

A large amount of your men begin reinforcing your walls and pasting dirt blocks with mud. However, one of them makes a shocking discovery. The soldier, a man who goes by the name Utumno, discovers a strange material close to a lake that can be placed in molds and hardened after the sun shines on it for a long time. To the west, your emissaries find that a warlike town of Taurus Ants exists. The town is named Oort, and is encircled by a wooden palisade. A stone keep inside rises above a small bustling community. Before proposing an alliance, your soldiers return to the keep to inform you on the situation.

Small communities begin existence atop the cliffs of Dover (?). The corpse of a massive dead creature is found, and your men harvest some of it before the bird-creatures arrive and devour it.
