I am a christian, i and i strongly belive in my lord jesus christ, and i also belive that if you belive in him and except him as your savior, u will go to heaven. and i also believe that he created the world, not the big bang, or that we came from stupid apes.

HiddenDistance: That's kind of how I feel too. This forum is of course an exception, because debating is fun, but yeah, I don't like those Jehovah's witnesses trying to convert me to a different form of Christianity.

I'm much inclined to agree with your post poisonarrow - one of the problems I do run into though is when I am frequently accosted to convert. I mean, I'm sure they're 'good' people, but why do they have to spread it around?

It is because of the way they were brainwashed into the religion, they have become slaves to belief.

This is ofcourse just my speculation. There are those who keep their noramlity, but within the Christianity sect they are criticized for not being a good "Christian". So what it boils down to Christianity is just wanting to eat in moar people.

'Brainwashed' might be a little harsh.

I can understand it in a certain respect - I mean, believing what is written, I'm going to eternal torment, and being a nice person, they think that pulling me into the fold is keeping me away from that eternal torment.

If it was just even that, I don't think I'd have a *problem* with it, it would just be irritating. I don't agree with it being taught in schools as science, or having an influence on government & legislation, and I find it hugely offensive when people make remarks like:

"New Orleans is what the U.S.A. gets for harbouring homosexuality."

That's when I have.. problems with religion.

Christians are not brain washed You beleive if you want to your not forced to.
Matthew 28:19

God wants us to tell others about him.

Well, if I wrote a book on the non-existence of god & then decided to stand around in your church or come and knock on your door to tell you how there is no such thing as god, you'd be okay with that?

Not to intercede in your argument, I don't like these guys knocking on my door either. But I'd just like to point out that this would be your opinion. Maybe the most logical one, but still nobody knows who is correct.
The Bible was written by people who believe they saw God, thus they feel they have a duty to convert people.

It's like one of those chain emails "and send this to ten of your friends".

To send this just a little off-topic, I'll bring up another example to the table:

Homosexuals & the whole marriage thing. Now, regardless of whether or not you agree with it - I think it's fine; whatever they want to do on their own time is their own business. What I'm not a fan of are the gay pride parades. I mean, way to hurt your own cause guys. You walk down mainstreet of a city wearing some of the most flagrant & weird costumes ever seen cheering on about your solidarity, and yet want to be treated just like everyone else.

I think it's fine to be gay.. but you don't see me interested in organizing a heterosexual parade that celebrates my sexuality. This relates a lot to my issues with spread of religion in the public eye.

HiddenDistance: I see your point. I guess it doesn't seem as annoying when you believe religion has something to offer you. But I guess some things should be kept to yourself.

The conversion thing drives me insane-and many of the people I've met are VERY rude about trying to convert me.

Remember how I told you about that guy who pretended to be God and spoke in a deep, echoey voice over the chapel intercom to try to convince children that God is real and watching over them? One time, a kid asked a simple question about the Bible and he put him in time-out for not knowing the answer already.

I remember that, yeah. How old was the kid (either way, he shouldn't be punished)? But if you're 14 and have been in the faith most of your life, you really should know a lot about your faith, even if you haven't read the entire Bible. What was the question?

Well, it was at an after-school camp, and the kid wasn't even Christian. He was 12. He asked if the world would really be 13,000 years old because the Bible says 10,000 years old and the Old Testament was written 3,000 years ago, and the guy kicked him out of the room and told the rest of us that we can 'continue, now that th bad apple is out.'

I'm assuming this was a Christian camp thingy, otherwise that wouldn't make any sense. Never mind then, that's ridiculous either way if he wasn't even Christian. Also, the world might've been around longer than even 13,000 years, because there are a lot of metaphors in the Bible. For instance, 7 days of creations could mean "day" like time period, you know? A lot of metaphors. Might explain why he couldn't answer it that easily, we don't know for certain. Hope that answers your question.

Everyone else, we can continue now that the bad apple is out.

Exactly. That guy is just pretty crazy. Another time, he told a 2nd grader that his dad was going to hell because he wasn't religious.
