I mean, I personally just think of war as a harsh time and bloody ages, but really, does war solve anything?

But our Country has the best military system on earth that is why we triumph in war.

Not true. You triumph in war because you have enough $ to afford the machinery enabling you too be able to dominate smaller weaker countries.

This war is confusing the say that an American soldier can Kill a platoon of Afghnies. Yet lots of our troops are killed.

Not true. The Afghani fighters are very good at guerilla warfare. They have been fighting since the 80s first against the Russians and now us.

The founding fathers initially didn't want independence from England, they were angry about England imposing unfair taxes and martial law in the colonies.

Of course the founding fathers didnt want independance from England because they were all English the original Western Americans. The American government at the time used the media to start a war. Each US citizen only had to pay a tenth of what ordinary British ones did. It was a barely recognisable amount. God i hate it when i have to educate people about their own countries.

today we are celebrating the American War for Independence

I think that must be why you 2 are spouting rubbish. You are all caught up in the hotdogs and fireworks and just wanna tell people how great your country is. Sigh no wonder people dont like Americans.

Yup, I remember starting this thread. I had nothing else to do back then except trying to earn points, but now I've come up with something new.

Well, war I admit, does solve those kind of things, but really, is it worth the lives that are lost?

War is used to force another country or group of like-thinking countries to change their belief's.

Hitler used war to attempt to force Europe to believe that the Jew's, among other groups, were not people and needed to be exterminated.
The Confederate States of America, or the south, believed that slavery is a perfectly valid practice and went to war with the north over it.
America believed that they should be an independent country and went to war with Great Britain over it.

War is a tool used by leader's to force views upon others. Most of the time it is bad, but there are instances where fighting back is the only option.

War solves the problem of being taken over. If attacked, fight back and not be taken over. This is the only reason any war should be fought and if all wars were fought for this reason then there would be no war. This is an easy way to answer the question.

To answer more deeply, no, war solves nothing... at least not in general. It solves a lot realy fast but in the long run all you learn is how to kill, all the other things you gain from war will eventually turn into things that were already known but forgotten, or things that realy were not important.

In the Art of War by sun tzu (pronounced zoo)

In the beginning of the book it says (idk if these are the exact words) remember the object of war is peace. I. the book he stresses not fighting unless you HAVE to. Today most of thesse wars are pointless take iraq for example. The US is "helping" because they were afraid of what iran MIGHT do.

On a different note I think if any of you get a chance you should read the book it applies to almost everything in life, it has also given me ideas for my fencing for you fencers out there.

@MrMonkey-
The Art of War is my favorite book!!
You are wrong, most people think Sun Tzu is pronounced "Sun Sue" however it is more accurately pronounced "Sun Tzzz" as in the final sound of "words."
The quotations you are talking about seem much more like those of Roman and Greek authors, these are from the Art of War (Lionel Giles translation:

"1. Sun Tzu said: The art of war is of vital importance
to the State.

2. It is a matter of life and death, a road either
to safety or to ruin. Hence it is a subject of inquiry
which can on no account be neglected."

Yes, you should read it, here is an online copy, it only takes like half an hour to read.

half an hour to read! I have read it in book form and it took me a hell of a lot longer than that! It is an entire book not a pamphlet. Altho i will agree with you it is an excellent book. The fact that we still read it today is testament to its brilliance. Even modern generals have used it. Rommel, Montgomery and some aspects of it have even been used in the gulf war and the more recent Iraqi operation fire and awe.

@ Woody, ok, maybe that is an exaggeration, unless you speed read like me. I too have it in book form which includes commentary from other ancient Chinese generals which nearly quadruples its length.

Sorry for the double, but my previous post implied that it takes 30 minutes to read both the actual Art of War and the commentary, however, I only meant the Art of War itself takes that long to read.

The only thing I personally think war solves is overpopulation. I mean war is stupid you fight with guns people get killed and nothing happens!

why does everyone say it solves overpopulation?Anyways the reaon war starts is because of politics and the way people think in countrys is different. What it solves is...well really nothing if you think about it.Now that I think about it even though people get killed that doesn't necessarily mean that it solves overpopulation. What makes a country overpopulated is when it has more people then resources to provide for them. The problem with war is that it siphones more money from a country then people that die.My point is that war, if you think about it makes a country even more overpopulated depending on your definition of the word.

War doesnt have to be fought if nobody starts anything.
Humans cannot accept each others opinions, so we fight about them instead...
