I think that most people hate school because that is what we do for a part of our lives most of the time and it gets a little boiring. However, I do think that it is neccersary.
@necromancer so you are basing how much a person gets paid by the amount of entertainment provided??
There is a large difference than entertaining and educating. Most teachers aren't very entertaining (except my seventh grade life science teacher and ninth grade wood shop teacher), so as such would merit less pay, being less entertaining. You would pay more to see Dane Cook than the local stand-up comedian with used jokes.
I find that much of the reason that kids don't like school is because they just don't care. They don't see how slacking off in school can affect them in the future.
@GreatZulu- That was only an example illustrating what my real point is, people are paid in terms of profits that they create. In the entertainment industry if you are more entertaining you are more profitable. Oh crap, I feel like an idiot, I misinterpreted what Zootsuit said. Ok nvm, don't look to what you quoted as an argument. Anyways, yeah, people should be paid based on how profitable they are that's the only way that makes economic sense, taxing citizens more in an attempt to make up for teacher incompetence isn't a solution.
Teachers educate. They give children the knowledge they need to go to college, get a degree, and get a job to support the economy. Pretty sure supporting the whole economy is on a bit of a larger scale than playing sports. That might just be me though.
Although I recognize that I am priviledged to get a good education I have to admit that some subjects you will never really use (algebra? when has anyone besides maybe an algebra teacher ever actually used it in their real life) and some grades were a complete waste of my time because I only learned about 1 thing all year that took me 1 day to learn that was reviewed constantly in later grades.
School is important, you simply need to be WILLING to learn. If you just go through the motions and want to get through it, no, you're not going to learn and it's going to suck for you. But if you actually want to learn something, then you'll have a much better time with it.
