Parents. And you learn such things in the first grade! The first few years of school I suppose are important, but the rest, yuck.
Well, do you mean school is important? It is VERY, without school, theirs nothing that you'll love and enjoy in you're life. Not a great job, barely any money. School is important, and so are grades.
Drace the rest of the years are boring, but if you want to go to college you have to. You said earlier, you could go to college right now and do fine, but that's because of school. The only things you could learn from parents is their vocation. What if Dads a farmer, but you want to be a lawyer? Without school or apprenticeships(another form of schooling) it's an endless cycle.
Having to go to school to get to college lies only in the system! It does not mean that I'm not ready to go into college. The system is corrupt, not school itself. The education thought should be a lot better. No one learns anything.
Hume, a very intelligent thinker said ""there is nothing to be learned from a Professor, which is not to be met with in Books.""
Even schools give you the tools to teach yourself. Also teaching yourself works, but you start in the beginning. I'm supportive of self-teaching, but a basic education gives you a head start. I wish more people would teach themselves, if more people did Godwilling the world would be a better place, but if you're too lazy to learn you're too lazy to teach yourself. By making kids go to school takes that away. Even if you're the worst student, the only way you learn nothing is through actively trying not to learn. You always get something out of school.
I agree there, it's not that hard to become a teacher which is why they are "underpaid." It really isn't that hard a job compared to a professor's. I think book-learning is good, but sometimes, a teacher can put the same info into words that somehow make so much sence to you. A couple years ago, my biology teacher would always show us animations on the lesson. She was a terrible teacher in my opinion, but the only things I really got were what the animations were on.
Drace, you have clearly had a bad experiance with teachers. There are good teachers out there who have something to teach other than regurgitate information, and help students in life. The professors give information, but they won't actually help you with problems. At least most. Good teachers have the capacity to make a difference in a child's development, it's the career makers who make school bad.
@quakingphear, they'll help if you ask them. If not, just get a tutor. They are there mainly for helping other students. And at the college level, you should be responsible enough to ask for help, or get it yourself. It isn't grade school, no one is going to help like they used to.
Yes, grade school teachers really do help, but alot of people could do the same thing. I bet in a year, i could be just a good, if not, better teacher than some we have now.
