When I saw this thread I was hoping more people wouldn't be anti-school. The comments posted here are the typical arguments of kids who don't like school. "It's boring." "I don't use any of the stuff they teach." Yeah school can be boring, but with out it society wouldn't improve any because people aren't taught anything and you would either be working at a fast food restaurant or not working at all. And of course some things taught at school you are never going to use, but the point of teaching it is to see if that interests you. Like with science. If I had never been taught any I seriously doubt I would be as interested in it as I am now.
Also homework is a definite necessity when it comes to school. No one likes to actually do it, but it's the only way the information gets reinforced inside your head. If the teachers just went over some notes for a few days and then gave a quiz or test on it, no one would pass. And when you get a job you aren't just given money for showing up there. Some work has to be done to get money.

@TotalReview I just wanted to say, what you wrote in your post was exactly what I was thinking and probably better written.

I don't really like school, too much learning, not enough having fun. I like it because you can see your friends, though, that's the only reason I go.

i dont get why people hate school so much. if you hate school, then u know whats going to come next. probaly skipping classes. But if you want a good money-making job, then you NEED school to pass for it.

Okay then, what are you going to do about it? Are you just going to complain and not try in school? That is not going to get you anywhere. Complaining will not change anything. Try going to a board meeting to speak your mind

It will take much more then a board meeting. Plus, who is to listen to me? My ideas are rather serious. And Total, I do the crap anyways so I can get to college.

My problem with school is that they don't teach well. The average high schooler knows hardly anything!

A board meeting does much more than complaining on a forum. If you get enough people to support your ideas, then they have to listen to you. I know this because we got my school to put more money into books instead of sports.

No, the problem is texting in class. This makes kids not pay attention and so they learn nothing. Then they wonder why they got bad grades. You can't just blame the school for a kid who doesn't want to learn. Blame the parents. Also, if your school was bad, it doesn't mean every single school is the same. My school has a lot of flaws but I make the most of it.

My plans are a lot bigger then board meetings.

But your right, I don't this is the school thats quite at fault, but the retardness of the kids who don't care. Where does this come from? Its hardly from parents. I know lot of good parents, but their children don't care.

OMG DRACE DID YOU SEE THE NEW CAPRIS AT ABERCROMBIE?!?!? Possibly this.

...or this generation is too spoiled. I mean I work so that is why I want to try really hard in school. Not many kids work (economy could be blamed) so they think mommy and daddy will always take care of them.

I don't think its anything to with the economy.

I think its rather because of all the businesses. There is a bunch of crap out there. Kids rather be playing Xbox 360 then being in school. They rather be out with their friends at this place...

I think thats the major thing to blame. It is partly because they are spoiled, but since there really is too much of these things, you cant blame parents. How far would they have to go to not let kids participate in such things?

I'm in my last year of college. And let me tell you, it is impossible for me to hold a conversation with someone my age (22) if they are a dropout (high school or college). Most dropouts are so unintelligent and have no coherent train of thought. I'm not trying to sound like an elitist here, but you learn so much from school that you can't learn alone.

Oh wow, I just thought of one of the biggest reasons school is unimportant to kids...SPORTS. The first reason is because it is time consuming. Most kids have to practice and the play games. They become tired and don't want to study or do homework. Another reason is because sports players are portrayed as heroes. There are a lot of these heroes who were failures in school. You can tell when they do an interview and the sports player says, "Yea yea cuz lik dat waz oor plane." I wonder why a sports player who failed school can get a free ride but a kid who got a 3.8 GPA can't. It is because we look up to sports players instead of intelligent people.
