This topic sparked in my ehad while I was perusing the Evolutionism Vs Creationism topic.

Do believe in an after life? If so, what do you feel is in store for you? For others?

Me, I don't know and I highly doubt any spoken or written word is going to convince me. One thing that is guaranteed is it will all keep me thinking; which is healthy.

If I die and there is nothing, then that's all gravy 'cause I won't be able to think about it and be disappointed.

If I die and see St. Peter at the pearly gate with a giant book, then I'll be letting out more than a few expletives for having second guessed the Christianity I was raised to believe in.

I think that there is in fact a heaven, and it is different than most think. Heaven is (in my opion) the real world. This universe is nothing but a fake. It is basically just a test to get into heaven.

It's interesting to see what notions people have about this. I mean a lot of people that posted truly, down to the bottom of them believe that no matter what science or logic might say about it. I know that sounds like an underhanded stab, but it isn't really. I mean what drives human to have faith? Is it just a brain state?

Can you prove what I am saying is not true. No science can ever prove that. If you can find reasonable proof that I am not true, then tell me that and I will listen. Innocent until proven guilty.

That's what Asherlee was saying, it doesn't matter is ever said or discovered 'cause people choose to believe what they want. And that's cool!

Well, I agree with those who said that they like the idea of reincarnation. I really LIKE that idea, but I see absolutely no reason to believe it.

I think everyone wants to live forever, period...hence the widespread belief in the afterlife and consequently religion.

As far as I'm concerned, I'll be in the same place that I was 1,000 years ago - oblivion. Nowhere, nothing, no consciousness, no care, etc.

I don't really think I'll mind.

Chiliad, just like Warbuff explained, it is interesting that no matter what some people will have faith. It is truly interesting how one person can be full of faith and the next not have any at all. But to respond to your post, can YOU prove that what you say is true?

Raz, unfortunately my brain tells me that that is probably the way it is going to be. But I'd like to think I'll be reincarnated...

I don't need to. In a court of law, it is up to the plaintiff to prove the accused wrong, not the accused to prove the plaintiff is wrong.

This isn't a court of law. Justice's notions do not translate into this. But you could flip this around just like you said. Can you prove me wrong then?

Yeah, if your going to make any kind of philosophical statement, you have just put the burden of proof on yourself. Without some kind of deductive (or at least inductive) proof, you don't really even have an argument (a point).

Then nobody can prove anything. You can't prove that there is no afterlife. In that case this thread should not exist, unless it is just to state beliefs. In that case You really only need to post here once. Bye.

I think it does not really matter. Hell, I do not care what happens after I die just as long as I get stuffed and mounted like I said before. If you did not read what I want, then go back a page and read in now. Do it. If I randomly die, you are all going to be witnesses to my last wishes.

People put too much weight on what happens after death. There is nothing we can do to change it, regardless of what happens. I bet with all the time that people have ever taken to ponder what lies beyond the grave, we could have flying cars by now. And dang nabbit, I want a flying car.

No need to get snippy there, chief. You were saying that you don't need to prove your beliefs, which is true, but simply stating them without present an argument for them and then asking others to prove you wrong just doesn't make sense.

I believe that in the end we will be forced to watch the Earth and what happens on until the end of time and then the whole cycle repeats and life goes on.
