Okay, this is pretty much a topic for Christians. Anyway, this has been a Gray Matter for forever with Christians, and I want to know what you guys think about this.
The big example people always come up with is this: If someone gave you a gun and told you to shoot either your friend or yourself, or else he'd kill you both, and you shot yourself, would you go to Hell? I mean, you saved your friend, but you committed suicide, which is unforgivable, right? What do you think?
well, if i was stuck in that, then I would in fact kill myself for my best friend, or my girl, or summat like that, and I believe that I would still go to heaven because you did it in love for another person. God is understanding, and besides, according to the bible, if you killed yourself for no apparent reason, you wwould still go to heaven, yes? It does say that after you get saved you'll be saved forever until death do you part (I just had to say that, lol), so I think you know what my answer is by know...
I agree that suicide is seen as a sin, but it killing yourself could also be seen as aloving thing. I heard of a woman who was made a saint. Doctors told her that if hse had a baby, she would die, so to save her own life she would need an abortion. However, she had the baby and let it live even though she died.
This question reminds me of the movie Constantine where the character, Constantine himself, gets to go to heaven because of sacrifice. Of course, his trip to heaven did not continue since Lucifer pulled him back again because, oh what the hell...just watch the movie!
i hold the idea of a sacrifice rather than a suicide
its hard to understand myself but as christains we are taught to put others before ourselves ... to let someone else die sort of puts out the point that we are willing to put others infront of us to a certain degree - that doesnt seem like the christain thing to do though as we should not stop when the choice gets harder... - if i was put into a situation where i could save a person if i allowed myself to die i would choose them over me; full stop.
Well look - I don't believe in God, so I'm ruling out that part, but I would do it depending on the situation - If the man threatened is aggressive and offensive onto YOU yourself, I say he should die, if he's a merciful and reasonable person I say you fan it out, try to make the final decision, if the person who will kill one of you won't let u talk to them I'd say stall the man and look at the victim, obviously you'll need to learn what you can about them...
I would kill myself, regardless of going to hell or not. If I kill my friend or let us both fie, than in some way I am murdering my friend. I think that murder is worse than suicide, though in this case, probably more like sacrifice.

Assuming I couldn't shoot the guy and I shot myself, that wouldn't be a sin. Jesus knew he was going to be crucified, but that he would die for our sins. He didn't stop them even though he could, so in a way it was like suicide. Plus, it's not like God lives in a box. He's omnipresent, and knows what circumstances we're in.
