Hello again, community. I haven't seen a thread regarding animations here, sorry if it has been made before. I figured it would be nice to have a place to post animations, so here goes. Of course they need to be made by you, not stolen somewhere off of the interweb. Hmm, if there's enough animators on here, we could make a contest...
I'll go first, posting the first real animation I've done. It's composed of 21 frames (looping in a way that doesn't really make sense, because I was too lazy), each frame drawn in Photoshop, then opened in the GIMP and exported as a .gif. I tried to get a sense of how velocity works...
Would you know where I could find a 2D Flash Animator? I would like to be able to draw my own characters on there, then animate them. I've been searching but haven't found much.
@Strop: YAY, constructive criticism! Mostly a lot of stuff I know I should do, but it always makes it easier to remember when someone has pointed it out. But first attempt ftw... Next time I'm gonna use a simpler character so I don't get too annoyed with having to draw enough frames for 20 fps~ And I'm thrilled you say I have potential (since you're really good at drawing and such yourself, I believe you mean it), would love to animate for a living...
And: Animation battle would be AWESOME. And would give me a great reason to stop being lazy.
A 2D flash animator? I'm not entirely sure what you're asking for here...maybe I do but I haven't the foggiest, sorry D:
3D animators are really difficult to master as a rule because it requires working in polygons (unless you get lazy and use templates, haha). I don't have the time now so I'm not touching them!
@ Zophia: I have no doubt you were looking at your work thinking "I need to do this and this and that and..." it's a feeling that plagues most artists. I generally start with a simple character because all I want is to capture dynamics. Super detailed stuff can actually end up being way too busy (a common issue I have with anime, especially when it means the animators get lazy.)
Actually when I said you have potential I have every confidence you'll end up a much better animator than I. It's a very time intensive process, and the difference between amateur and professional level animators is pretty stark in both technique and time invested. Maybe if I enrolled in summer courses or something...
The animator thing comes as part of the filters section in the GIMP as a whole. The GIMP does much more than make .gif animations, so you might as well grab the lot, then refer to Zophia's step-by-step guide...it'll make sense then.
Saving up for actual animation school (is friggin expensive), but once I can I'll get into it for real and go for becoming a pro But yes, next time, much simpler character, rather than drawing randomly and ending up animating.
And let's try that step by step thing in pictures, if someone didn't quite get where they should click. Step two (after making the actual frames for the animation). Step three. Step four. Step five.
