I heard this rumour going round that there is a slight chance the wrold could nd next wednesday thanks to some scientists experimenting with a large hadron collider.

It is a staggering device, occupying a train-sized tunnel 18 miles long, buried 300ft underground, studded with gigantic, cathedral-sized ring-shaped detectors where collisions between packets of âheavyâ subatomic particles, âhadronsâ, will take place in the hope that the innermost workings of matter and energy will be revealed.

The LHC is, arguably, the most impressive machine ever built by Mankind

I got this info from this website

[url=http://www.zimbio.com/CERN+Hadron+Collider/articles/110/Large+Hadron+Collider+World+End+Next+Wednesday]

I have heard that the chance of this happening is one in 50 million.

According to the article on the website the earth will end in one of two ways. The first is a biblical style ending.Massive earthquake, Tsunamis and tornadoes followed by the end itslef.

The fabric of the planet itself would start to disappear, trillions of tonnes of rock, water, air and life sucked into a whirlpool of unimaginable force.

The other scenario is an instant death.

In an instant - about one-twentieth of a second - the entire Earth would simply vanish from space.

Less than two seconds later, the Moon would follow suit. Eight minutes later, the Sun would be ripped apart, followed by the rest of the planets in the solar system and onwards, a wave of destruction caused by a rent in the fabric of space itself, spreading out from our world at the speed of light.

Even though it is a one in 50 million chance. It is still not a chance i am willing to take. If we(man) can destroy the universe no matter how tiny the chance then surely this is knowledge we are better off noyt knowing. What do you think?

I'm not, but I told one of my friends that the world could end today and he freaked out! He started checking his supply of emergency food in his basement!

If the world was going to end, then I don't think that emergency food would do much good

The world wont end anywhere in your lifetime or your grand-kids life-time we may say our military/governments are dumb but not dumb enough to launch any missles, sceintist aint retarded enough to make a world ending machine insert 25 cents.

As I said earlier, it would happen so fast, you wouldn't even know it. And it's France, not Sweden.

Well, are we gonna die yet? I know it was a slim chance, but at least, I am sure, that we will not have to worry about this no more.

What if it already ended and we just don't know it because it happened emmediately and sent us into an alter dimension that is just like ours except that people who are different are excepted and SpongeBob is still cool...Yeah think about that for a while.

It is extreamly...WRONG for them to be risking Armageddon just to see what the Big Bang might have looked like.If you ask me it's BEYOND the bounds of human stupidity....I being a hippie/enviormentalist/inventor/internet-junkee/....(the list goes on,and on) think that it would not necisarilly end the universe.....only our solar system. If we can create a Universal Armegeddon Machine now.....imagine what someone like Osama Bin Laden could do with that!OMG!*hyper ventilates and hides in panic room

5 years later....

*talks with friends*

"I'm glad i'm not insane"

I was in a padded room once..hehehehe!!!......In a straight coat too.....those nice people in the lab coats kept me safe from the end of the universe....hehehehehehehe!!!....my best freind was a speck of dust.....untill I accidently ate it.HAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHA*laughes insanly*
