So, you're saying that you can be evil and still be in heaven?

how do you define evil?
from what i see, if he doesnt wanna go to hell, wants to go to heaven, but has a really messed up life, then he gets a heck of a long time in purgatory and is not evil.

No, you don't understand: Bob wants to go to heaven because he is scared of the alternative.
So he behaves according to the rules for fear and none else. He is still a rotten person but he is too afraid to behave according to what he feels, because he will get hell. Literaly.
So he enters purgatory when he dies and then (eventualy) gets to heaven. Still evil, if not more, for being in a horrible place for a long time.

Liking something doesn't make it a reality.

Mage thanks for the link. Even so with the prayer for the sins to be blotted out it has no refference to a place where you pay for minor sins until you are deemed worthy of heaven. Either Christ forgives your every sin or none at all.

Then what is the basis for your idea of heaven?

Right. I think the basis of the whole purgatory thing is that people want to believe they still have a chance of getting into heaven even if they aren't enitrely good. But when you think about, why would God let in anyone who wasn't astounding? Why would he surround people who didn't even follow his rules completely on earth? God doesn't need people to like him or think he is nice. It's not like he's trying to be Prom Queen or anything.

But on the other hand, don't you have to draw the line somewhere? No one is perfect; everyone will have some degree of sin. Does that mean no one gets into heaven?

Not a prom queen, really? If he was real he whould have basicly said " I am your master. Tell me Im awsome while you live and once you die youll be ably to sing my praise forever!" that sounds a little prom queen like...

From what I heard from my old bible school(when I was seven...) It was somthing like "accept Jesus as your savior and youll be forgivin of all sin" witch also sounds like there tring to ease thier own minds...

If we are are supposedly unworthy sinners, why would God let anyone in for that matter.

God doesn't need people to like him or think he is nice.

Worship me and no one else.

Actually thinking about it. It says no Gods before me. So I guess the spaghetti monster is perfectly acceptable to worship.

There's a huge difference between worship and admiration. You worship things that are powerful. You admire things that are nice. If I thought that there was someone who could flood the entire planet whenever he wanted to, I would worship him. That doesn't mean I would like it.

So it's control through fear?

Just because something is powerful doesn't mean it should be worshiped.
Pulsars and supernovas are powerful events but do we worship them? No there's no point to.

Agreed. Personally, I don't think anyone or anything should be worshipped. Also, I was suprised you used the Supernova example. While supernovas are powerful, they don't really have a direct effect on me (well I suppose it depends on where the supernova happens...).
Right after I posted my last thing, I thought that someone was going to say "Then why don't we worship every world leader that has a nuke?" That example makes a little more sense. I mean, there are people running around that are capable of ending every life on Earth, and yet we don't worship them. So Yeah, I was pretty far off on my last post. Now that I've thought about it, it really depends on the type of power and how it is used.

Well the only criteria you stated was that something be powerful so...

I think its not the power that something has, it's what said power is used for. Or people are greedy for a chance to indulge in the power, i.e. major religions of the world people follow them because they're lookinf forward to the reward of Nirvana, Heaven etc.

LOL and how do you know?

BTW there are many Christians who behave good because they want to go to heaven. But is that what God wants? (if there is a God...) Don't you think that God would prefer people who don't believe in God but behave good because they choose so?

Don't you think that people who behave morally because they believe in God and people who behave morally despite not believing in God both behave morally? :P
