Yes but there's a difference between a small privilege and the luxurious lifestyle in prison. A man in England killed two girls and got a cell with a sofa, tv, everything in it. That to me is horrid. Murderers should get a solitary cell with nothing but a mattress and toilet and their only privileges should be some outside air and maybe books.
I mean i understand the likes of school courses and a gym for minor offenders but sometimes killers get way too much of a good life in jail.

Wow. Well this is too much, I agree. The way prisoners are handled should really be dependent of the crime they did. Occupying them by giving them tv is an easy solution, but doesn't work at all. They need something to work on, maybe even something exhausting so after "work" they get back in their cell and are so tired they don't need a sofa to sleep..
I think a work scheme would be beneficial depending on what it was. You couldn't let murderers and rapists just stroll back into public to work. Maybe an on site prison job like digging, i don't know.
Yes, I was thinking about something like that too. Maybe install a sort of small factory in the prison area, where they can work on things that are brought into the prison and taken again as product, under supervision and stuff. Considering the Lucky Luke comics, I'm not sure digging is the best thing to make them do though
I am undecided. I will think about it more but for right now I think whatever the court decides is final. If they decide to use the death penalty then go for it. If they choose 142 years in prison then I would rather see the death penalty
I am definitely in favor of the death penalty, however I am in the opinion that it should only be allowed in the most extreme of cases, and when the defendant's guilt is guaranteed.
Oh yea, one thing I do not like about the death penalty is the power the government gets over our life. The government can literally decide if you live or not. Would you want a government like that? I mean I know there are a lot of Fascist lovers out there, but to all the liberals or rational people, would you want a government having the power to end your life? And you can do nothing or little about it? Just because you broke laws that where made by that government in the first place?
No matter how bad, I think the death penalty, should be removed, and only used in when the accused and proven guilty is a highly dangerous threat, inside bars.

Whatever the court decides is final? And you don't question it at all?

Every court should have the best mixture of jury because who is one person to decide the fate of another? I guess you can ask who s a jury to decide the fate of people but at least it's more with an unbiased opinion.
It shouldn't be to punish. We should work to prevent crime, rehabilitate those who commit crimes, and try to repair the damage done to the victims. If the victims think that the criminal should suffer to repair the damage, they're incorrect and the justice system should not aid them in revenge. No matter how awful the crime, retribution for its own sake is wrong.
Why should they be granted such privileges?
Because they're people, and people are normally granted nice things. Why should their past wrongdoings change that? Why does committing a crime make anyone deserve to suffer where it hurts no one?
A man in England killed two girls and got a cell with a sofa, tv, everything in it. That to me is horrid.
And you suggest making them suffer when it helps nothing. That, to me, is horrid.
Murderers should get a solitary cell with nothing but a mattress and toilet and their only privileges should be some outside air and maybe books.
Why so cruel? Do you honestly think you're helping, or does your sense of justice lead you to believe that more suffering makes things right? An eye for an eye is the path of the weak.
As for the labor issue, giving the government an economic incentive to convict people is a bad idea.
Tell me Xzeno, how do you rehabilitate a rapist or a murderer? Would you like to tell a woman that the man who ripped her life apart is out in public once again? Explain to a man that his daughter's murderer is once more free to do as he pleases?
While prison should be for rehabilitation rather than punishment, it is foolish to think that all criminals are worthy of such a chance, or that all criminals are even able to repent for what they have done.
Oh yea, one thing I do not like about the death penalty is the power the government gets over our life.
The government only gets such power in cases of treason, and other such delicate issues, in every other death penalty trial the verdict is handed down by a jury of your peers, at least that's the way it works in most western countries. Therein lies the problem also, many people consider jury duty to be a hassle rather than a civic responsibility they should be honored to take part in. This results in a virtual worst case scenario in the case of juries.
Just because you broke laws that where made by that government in the first place?
Again the laws are made by the people, or representatives of the people, since there is no such this as a direct democracy anymore.
The government is no more responsible for laws and punishments than any normal person is.
Death penalty is a good way of punishment and even help to keep jails less full! The life sentence is good too, but the jails would be filled with convicts for 20 years!
