i say its all bull-crap its getting colder and colder
Global warming is not the right name for what is going on. It should be called global climate change. The importance of this crisis is that the climate everywhere is changing which is having drastic effects on the life there. The poles are getting heated because that is where the holes in the ozone are. Just because your area is cooler, does not mean the average global temperature is going down. Do you have any other argument besides "its getting colder and colder"?
life is a cycle, deal with it
WE need to deal with this. If you want to wait and say, "Screw this!" then I hope you don't have children. How are you going to explain to them that their lives will be tormented because you and others did not want to do anything about it. The time to act is now. If we just keep waiting, it is only going to get worse. If the government actually cared, we would have had alternative cars many years ago. Not to mention, most "green tips" actually save you money while saving the environment.
Hes talking about me. All his posts are flaming me, even if he has no idea what I'm really saying. Hes just stupid like that.
That isn't flaming, that is lively debate.
Now, there is no doubt that man is contributing to the warming of the earth. The question is whether or not the planet is capable of naturally correcting itself despite our actions, and whether or not we would survive through such a correction. I don't think we could, and that is why we must, first and foremost, reduce our energy consumption, and reduce vehicular emissions through more efficient automobiles and prodigious use of public transportaion and carpooling. Next, replace aging coal plants with nuclear plants and, when feasible, solar and wind plants.

Well, don't encourage the fighting by saying he is stupid.

Wow, I pretty much completely agree with everything you said. We have to reduce our energy consumption and the best way is to broaden our sources of energy. We can't just depend on one source since that is too risky. Nuclear energy is actually one of the safest energy sources in the world. If only the government actually cared about the environment instead of money from the gas companies.
Eh, I think people are worried about another Chernobyl happening as well...
There have been way more accidents related with coal, than with nuclear power. It's sad that Chernobyl happened but if nuclear power became a main source of power, I guarantee there would be even more safety restrictions put in place. We either use up all our coal and end up with nothing or we go with nuclear power and other sources for a slim chance of a disaster and have a lot of clean power for a long time.
I only have one opinion on global warming. My thoughts on it are as follows: Global warming is happening and it is plain to see but, all of this has happened before - the ice age for example - so the people who think that it is all down to humanity I believe are wrong beause I think that we humans have only quickened up global warming and it had to happen again. I do know that people will disagree but I have had this discussion in my geography classes at school and I have managed to change a few peoples minds so I think that you should just worry about how you can cut your carbon footprint down to slow down what will happen.
i think either way, we should behave as if we are causing it, and work on being more energy efficient, less wastefull, less polluting, and more respectful of our beautiful earth. I dont want to have to live in a trashed, toxic environment. I like green beautiful land, with fresh air. I hope some people will realize that even if we are not the main cause of global warming, we can and should still work on reducing our impact on the earth.

This isn't just unlikely, its impossible. The reactors at Chernobyl were/are nothing like the reactors in the Western world.
First, they had no containment structure. When the reactor went super-critical there was nothing to contain the high-temperature, high-pressure steam, which blew the reactor building apart, blasting the highly radioactive fuel all over the area and into the atmosphere.
Second, their reactor physics was constructed where an increase in temperature increased fuel reactivity. Western reactors have a decrease in reactivity with temperature, helping to prevent overheating and meltdown.
Third, their reactor operators were inexperienced, and were pressured by the plant manager (who was also the mayor of the town AND the local head of the Communist party) into running a reactor test that every other plant in the USSR had turned down. Because it was incredibly dangerous, as they proved. Essentially, they isolated a reactor coolant pump, removed too many control rods, and ended up losing control of the reaction. Stupid communists.
Bottom line - this CANNOT happen here. Nuclear reactors are designed with twice the required safety features, are strictly regulated by the NRC in the USA, WANO in the rest of the world, and also by the rest of the industry through INPO.
Case in point for the safety of nuclear power. Japan accidentally built a nuke plant on top of a fault line. A 6.8 earthquake hit. No meltdown, though they did loose some waste into the sea. But my point is a 6.8 earthquake didn't cause a meltdown! How much safer can you get?
