The greatest song ever

I loved that song because it contained everything that I thought was right in America. Now that Obama has been elected, I am very disappointed in my country. As of now, I am taking down the american next to Agent_86 and replacing it with the Filipino flag(for any questions about why the Filipino flag, ask me on my profile).

I AM NO LONGER PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN.

LOL. This was absolutely hilarious. Before getting into the thread I expected this to be about how America slaughtered millions of Indians and drove them completely homeless. Maybe something about slavery and going on through history; the many unjust wars, the exploitation of other countries, racism...

But nope. We get Agent complaining about Obama.

Since of course no other country has ever been guilty of similar things. Anyway, I'm not a believer in crazy patriotism. I enjoy being an American to the extent one should enjoy their country. But as I have told people around the world, get over yourself. Don't bitch and moan about America because you hate the government. Even I who was forced to spend the last eight years under Dubya never said I disliked America.

Make the distinction people. It's not America or Americans, it's the government.

Well yes, I discredit patriotism completely. Love the current state of things, but don't credit anything for it.

America doing great for you, great! But no need for the "I'm so proud to be a great American! (PS, other countries suck)"

You know actually very few Americans think that way. There are the crazy blind patriots who scream such a thing, yes, but I'd wager you find those in any country. Most people are happy where they live and express that happiness but most Americans aren't as arrogant people in other countries seem to think we are.

Nothing wrong with pride and there is nothing wrong with dissent. Both are equally welcome the the USA. But in general my point is, don't hate the country because you you hate the government.

That reminds me of a quote from Head of State: "God bless America. And no place else."

Not that great a movie, but now it's heck of a lot more hilarious.

I like Obama, I'm only 15, so politics and such aren't affecting me all too much at the moment. At the moment.

I am not all patriotic and go shouting "GO AMERICA! GO! GO! GOGOGOGOGOGO!" but I do like this country......provided I've never been over seas, despite the whole 3-year rotation thing the Navy has. I honestly hated Bush, I know he's not responsible for a lot of stuff, and Congress has the real power to put everything out there, but seriously........I have taken a hate for Republicans, but I'm not Democratic either.
I think it's good we have a Democrat, I mean, if we had only Republican, only Democrat, we would have nothing! No different perspective, no alternative means of view of the political parties that influence our elections so much. I think everyone should be happy, it's not like Democrats will take over, you can't get rid of the Left and Right so easily, you, Agent, will have your Republican eventually, let the other team get a point every once in a while, it's not like all the Democrats were happy as can be when you get a Republican in the White House...

Obviously made by someone who is racist against blacks, muslims.... Unless of course you would rather have a vice president who doesn't know sh't about what shes doing....And you want another George Bush. All i can say is that America finally went in the right direction... after 8 years.. But all i can say is that its good as long as you change.

CONGRATS OBAMA, nice job making history.

I supposed in some weird way you must be hearing every American citizen. Or you're basing your opinion on forums which is not even close to being representative of any country. Whereas I, who live here, am saying that the majority of Americans are not what is represented on the news, on forums, in movies, or by the government itself. I really get tired of people making assumptions when they really know nothing of the average person.

I have to agree. I support patriotism, but I do think it is pretty egotistical and ignorant to claim that we are the best country. At least for these lat 8 years, we probably haven't been.

Wait...So you don't like your country now because a man who is a democrat is running your country?

Your logic fails...He's gonna fix your country,he's finally gonna to stop alienating all the eastern countries and he's probably gonna fix americas relationship with russia...He's gonna fix your taxes and hes probably gonna do better in stopping the recession..

How the hell is he worse than a 72 year old man who would keep your troops in Iraq still for no reason..Would keep the same policies as bush and he has the worst vice-president candidate ever

If Palin was to ever become president of america..I would fear the world would end.

McCain may not be bad but he's too old..Hes the same news as Bush and the republican party has gone too far to the right...It needs to attract the ordinary person again.

Ya no matter what they believe if you just looked at age, McCain's views on things are from the sixties, when he grew up. No matter what he says hes gonna be thinking in the past. Obama is younger and modern, and he is thinking about the future, and wants to change things. I think we need to be forward thinking, not sitting around telling war stories with your POW buddies.

All of you rag on GWB, and he is a complete dumbass, but remember this. We have had no other terror attacks since 9/11 because Bush went in there and bombed the crap out of them. In a way, he restored a bit of respect for America. WoW!! did I just defend Bush?? I need to have my head checked...

To those who critisize me i do not care you say i make myself look foolish why? I am simply stating that love the country you live in things wont always go your way but when do they? I mean really if i would only live in countries that did what i wanted i would have become the totalitarian ruler of a country but not even then. So do not be slanderous about my comments they are only showing the love of the country i live in and the patriotism that every single man, woman and child should have for their country.

@Drace:

Yeah. Every country has it's bad history. Nothing new, really. Heck, we're still a pretty young country, and could get better over time.

Still... I can't argue that the U.S is the "best" country in the world. One reason is that we're too selfish (and too lazy. We hardly made physical protests for the war).
