Everybody is talking about the first black president, but nobody is mentioning Barack Obama's mother. Barack obama's mother is from the plains, and is 100% white. So unless his father is 100% black, then Mr. Obama cannot be considered the first black president.
Obama's father is NOT 100% black. He's not even 50% black. Only one of Obama's great-grandparents is actually black!!!
Therefore, even though Obama may have a good tan, he is the 44th white president of the US.
Somehow that reminds me of something else, but what ever. So all techically he is white, but since his skin colour is not, he is still "black". Just like some immigrants is "okay", until someone get to know their name. Your looks says more about you that anything else. For a first hand impression, at least.
My mom is from the Philippines, so I'm Asian. But because my dad's a crazy-mixed American, if you saw me on the street, you would see a white guy.
Also, many historians say that Obama wouldn't be the first black president, if you could say that. 2 or 3 presidents in the late 19th century are said to "ass for white", though they were really of freed-slave ancestry.
I posted this because it's the cold, hard truth, which has been altogether ignored for the vague promises of "hope" and "change" for the past 3 months.
This is what we called percieved identity. you percieve him to be white because his mother is. However, he percieves himself to be black as that's his identity. it's like italian-americans first generation believe themselves to be italians living in america whereas regeneration italian americans view themselves as american-italians. He's got black ancestry, including his father who's from kenya. He was brought up in asia. He has a right to stick to his black identity.
And this matters why? What does race have to do with being president? In the end who really cares? If you want to get technical he is not white. He's mixed race. He chose to identify with his skin color. Who are we to tell him he's wrong?
