Proposition 8 was the bill voted on by California voters over gay marriage. The bill, if passed, would ban gay marriage and nullify over 18,000 marriages in the state. The campaign for the bill turned nasty. Both sides raised over $35 million, the most ever for a single issue bill. In the end, about 52% of the population voted for Proposition 8, thus taking away the rights of gays in California.

What shocked me the most was which group was most responsible for the bill being passed. Was is the Whites? Nope. Latinos? Nope. The Religious community? Nope. They all voted about 50/50 on the bill. In fact, almost every group voted 50/50, except for African Americans. Over 70% of African Americans voted for the bill, thus swinging the pendulum against gay rights.

I find it awfully Ironic that just 40-50 years ago, the blacks were struggling for rights in America. They had to use separate facilities, restaurants, schools, and bathrooms. They were second class citizens. âSeparate but Equalâ was the slogan to justify this racist and nasty system. It took the African American community over 100 years to tear down these walls and be granted equality. Slowly, but surely, racism is dying in America. All races are free to be in the same places as Whites. Any person of any race, color, ethnicity, background, or religion can marry whomever they want. Because of heroes like Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, W.E.B. Du Bois, and thousands of others, minority groups have gained freedom.

Now, gays are fighting the same struggle. Millions of gays around the United States are not allowed to marry the person they love. They are treated like second class citizens. They have to worry about constant threats of violence, isolation of friends and family, and condemnation of religious groups. With the state of things, the gays might as well be labeled âSeparate but Equal.â

One would think that African Americans would sympathize with the gay rights movement. Both have been held back due to genetics. Both have been oppressed. Both have suffered violence, brutality, murder, and hatred. Yet it is now the African Americans who are shooting down gay rights.

African Americans who were interviewed on the topic were seen wearing âObamaâ shirts, hats, or other gear. They supported Obama all the way. Yet when it came to gay rights, a supposed Liberal issue, they were violently opposed. Many interviewees were getting upset at the slightest thought of allowing gays to marry. When asked the difference between the Civil Rights Movement and the Gay Rights Movement, they usually responded with something like, âItâs just differentâ or âItâs not natural.â 50 years ago, it was ânot naturalâ for blacks to have rights in America. So how are gay rights any different?

There is no logic, justification, or sense in voting for Proposition 8, especially in the African American community. They went through the same oppression, and are now the oppressors. I am assuming I will be labeled a racist for writing this. That is okay. I am not a racist. I just seek the truth in the issues. And the truth is that the people who were formerly oppressed, are now the oppressors.

(NOTE: I know not all African-Americanâs voted for proposition 8, so don't think I'm blaming the entire group. I am only blaming those who voted for the bill. I also know that everyone who voted for the bill is to blame for the intolerance. But this is just to point out the hypocrisy on the African American vote).

What if gay couples were only allowed to adopt children who are already labeled as gay?

It would only be one of many possible reasons for mocking.

I am not homosexual but I have friends who are. They have heterosexual parents so don't give me the bullcrap that only homosexual parents have homosexual kids. I also have a heterosexual friend who has homosexual parents and everyone accepts him. Are there kids who make fun of him for it? Yes, just like there are kids who make fun of others because of their weight or other insecurities. The world is mean but the reason it is mean is because we always look for someone to pick on. Women, African Americans, immigrants, homosexuals, or anyone else that dares to be different. We really need a wake up call.
No matter what you are, if you are the minority, you risk getting mocked. That is not a valid argument against gays adopting. The world will just have to realize that we are not all the same!

Children should never be labeled gay. At the age were homosexual behaviour patterns become apparent, they're usually far up into the teenage years... So no, wouldn't work. Besides, just like gay people can grw up with straight parents, straight people can grow up with gay parents...

Also, this should not make people vote no to homosexual marriages, as it does not involve adopting (if it did, a lot of people would probably not marry).

That with the kids with homosexual parents... You know tribes where whole families live together, and the children are with their mother all day? Strangely enough they do not grow up being a homosexual......

So it was totally fine that some kids ruined a year of my childhood by beating me up? For no other reason than they though it was all fun, laughting at my pain?

Is it all fine for kids being mocked to suicidal behaior, because they are a little different?

Anyway: on topic.
A theory for the topic in question: the ones being mocked will mock other with a lower rank than themselves, without thinking of what they - felt when being mocked.
Race > Gays, apparently...

Yeah, I know. Ans as much as would like to - hate you from all the flaming you do, you are good at discussing, and have some interesting points, as long as you do not cuss or flame... Mockeries as a topic just makes me snap...

They were at the joking level. To them. Beating me up was quite fun to them....

You were entirely on topic with this. Having a homosexual couple as your parents may give people a reason to mock and abuse you, but its certainly not the only reason, and it wouldn't be the cause! Some people must take their own crappy lives out on others, finding enjoyment only in the pain of others.

Homosexuals might actually be better parents on average because of what they have to go through to get a child. They have to fully consider and understand the weight of parenthood, and brave the process of adoption. A child needs love above all else. If two men or two women can offer that, then that is the most important thing.

Oh how I hated them... Laughing and hitting me and.... Sorry, offtopic.

Yes, I would think so too, just like converted jew/muslims/christans make a better believer than the ones born to the belief. There is so much that can make it go wrong, so you work so much harder to make it right.
Migraine patients often work harder than their collegues, as they feel like they have to make up for their illness and they days they have to stay in bed.
Interesting, is it not?

Yeah... I had a crappy childhood...
But I agree. It is not people with a bad life doing this, it is just about everyone to show they are the better... Such...
Being mocked for being different, or even less popular...

I have moved now, and it is a long time ago... Traumatizing as it was, it just made me learn how to hold the anger in... It always ends up with me snapping because of the rage...

It happened in school one time. Everyone but the one I got angry at seemed to gain respect for me, and so... Some came up to me and told me how they just never would have done that themselves, and that they were really glad I had snapped...
Anyway, not about me...

uh guy... u coulda put all of that into one statement... And ur telling the same story. Im sry u got beat, and i cant say i understand that feeling. I can say that having gay parents is a common reason for kids to beat u up. The fact is kids these days hate anything thats not in their trend, or style, or norm.... They feel all else is sub euquals to them, therefore they should get beat. Having gay parents does just that.
But again isn't this the way blacks were treated??? why the f'ck didnt u guys vote towards gay marriages you hippocrits!!!!

Non-homosexual parents, by the way. And it was a conversation with UltraPriest/DemonicPriest/and so on. His posts have been deleted, as he is banned for flaming a cursing. So sorry for it to look like I am spamming, but I was not. Just a little off topic, I guess.
I think it might be something cultural, the thing about the - black voting no to it. We do not know any of their reasons, and just as Americans should be very large about emigrants, - black people should be large about another minority. That is just not how the world is.
Prejudice is an evil thing.
