Yeah I do agree with that. I'm all for helping out other countries and all but we need to get our country fixed first. We have so many problems internally and we are putting them in the shadows where they do more damage.

Some advice for those of you thinking about/are going in:

Get it in writing: Recruiters can talk all they want, don't sign anything until you get what you asked for in writing.

Get fit: The more physically fit you are before you leave for basic, the better. Running, stretching, and basic strength training, will make things far easier for you.

Positive attitude: bootcamp is as much a psychological game as it is a physical one. Their goal is to break you down and remake you into a team player. Leave any individuality at home.

Educational Benefits: Sign up for the G.I.Bill and College Fund even if you have no plans to go to school right now. You can use those benefits along the way while you're still in, or once you get out. Statistics show that people with a college degree earn more than people without them. Keep that in mind.

Experience Counts: Having college credits, being an Eagle Scout, and several other experiences can equate to earlier advancement.

Your Dreamsheet: When you get done with training, you'll get a chance to fill out a form indicating the top three places you'd like to be stationed. If you want a better shot, group them close together geographically. If you "scatter" them, you have a better chance of getting sent anywhere.

The previous advice has more to do with enlisted folks than officers. Officers have to have a college degree to start out with.

So join the Air Force or Navy. Less chance of getting shot at and still have the opportunity to shoot stuff.

Awesome! Me too, two more years and I'm in. I went to Parris Island over the summer and we did the physical testing I passed it but barely so I have been working on that.
