It depends. after the baby is born, can't they take the stem cell out?

Wow. I can't believe that this topic wasn't created before. After the baby is born, they have adult stem cells, which act as repair units for the body. What's controversial is using embryonic stem cells (different than adult stem cells). You need to get these from unborn babies, although new researches are proving otherwise. (See "Potential method for new cell line derivation".)

I'm pro-embryonic-stem-cell-taking-for-research-and-not-eating. It would help develop new cures for previously incurable diseases, thus saving lives.

Craze, think about how many diseases would be cured. Research into embryonic stem cells might save thousands of people. The people donating the stem cells are willing contributors who (I assume) would just abort the baby if they couldn't donate it.

I think there is already a topic on this but is buried.

@Craze
McCain supported stem cell research too.

@Topic
I don't think there should b any prohibitions on it, however, I am against the government using tax-dollars to fund it. Stem cell research should be left open for private enterprise.

"Supports federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. (May 2007)"
"Voted YES on expanding research to more embryonic stem cell lines. (Apr 2007)"
"Expand embryonic stem cell research. (Jun 2004)"

Yes he did. McCain had a town hall meeting in my high school gym (Lakeville South, the same place where the woman from Shakopee said "I'm afraid of Obamma, I read that he's an A-rab..."; I was actually sitting six seats away from her). Anyways, being in the AP US gov't class I got to go to the meeting and was in the fourth row back from McCain. Someone in the balcony asked him if he supported embryonic stem cell research and he said that he did on the condition that it was from excess cells from in-vitro fertilization and with the understanding that new developments would be made to minimize the need for embryonic stem cells so adult cells could be used. Palin, on the other hand, was adamantly against embryonic stem cell research.

IPC, he might've voted for it then. But I know in the election he said he was against it.

I was pretty sure about that too. But maybe he changed his mind. Obama did, so why can't McCain?

Hm. Craze is right. Johnny changed his stance on the issue, although he clearly voted pro stem cell research in the past.
"For this reason, John McCain opposes the intentional creation of human embryos for research purposes. To that end, Senator McCain voted to ban the practice of "fetal farming," making it a federal crime for researchers to use cells or fetal tissue from an embryo created for research purposes. "

But...
"McCain is a member of The Republican Main Street Partnership and supports embryonic stem cell research despite his earlier opposition."
Source

And...
"Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who is running for the Republican presidential nomination, on Thursday while campaigning in Florida said he continues to support human embryonic stem cell research, the Washington Post reports. When asked whether recent advances in nonembryonic stem cell research would change his stance, McCain replied, "I have not changed my position yet" (Milbank, Washington Post, 1/25)."

I think that this will end confusion:
"McCain opposes embryonic stem cell research that uses cloned human embryos. In 2006 he supported a trio of U.S. Senate bills designed to increase federal funding for adult stem cell research, ban the creation of embryos for research and offer federal support for research using embryos slated for destruction by fertility clinics. In 2007, in what he described as "a very agonizing and tough decision," he voted to allow research using human embryos left over from fertility treatments."

very confusing, like any other politician. they can't seem to decide. The only way i would support stem cell research is if it didnt involve killing unborn babies. However, as you stated, iPC, they are finding ways to use stem cells without abortion.

Depends if im not mistaken theres a way to take it from an adults back...?But taking it from embrios is just abortion so im against it honeslty i care more about the babies life than getting rid of these diseases.
