I created this topic because i thought life was a frist person game were the others are only a program, and there is always someone trying to explain it.How to now that i´m not in a alien tech center being studied while my mind is on a "game program" thinking that it's alive?
On the other hand, if one says the universe just hasnt (cant have) always been, then God cant have always been either.
I find that to be a very...I want to say pathetic, but it doesn't seem to be the right word for it...argument. There, obviously, is evidence that the universe has not been around forever. If it has, would there be many more nebulae out there?
theories even claim its infinite
If you have ever looked at a ring or the infinity sign (that toppled over eight) you find that there is no end or beginning to those. In a sense, those are "infinite" too. There is one theory that the universe is infinite in that way. You can't get to the end, but it you go straight, you will eventually end up where you started. I don't understand how that works, but it explains a lot.
...if one says the universe just hasnt (cant have) always been, then God cant have always been either.
And why would it be impossible for God to be infinite if the universe can't be?
We have no idea for how long this universe has existed and its most likely unimaginably long, plus we dont know how big this universe is and its probably unimaginably big.
I don't understand.
The universe is 13.61 billion years old. The visible universe is 156 billion light years across.
Decades of research and acreful measurements have gone ito refining these figures to be as accurate as possible. (the distance one is accurate to 1%)
You only use carbon dating for biological things. The universe is not a living entity.
err... to be blunt I don't know how to measure the age of the universe. Ask an expert is my advice because all I can do is mumle a line about rate of expansion and the distance expanded. You know Distance= Speed x Time.
So...how do you go about measuring the age of the universe?
I found it!!! This is a quote from a site I found. "We could never see a galaxy that is farther away in light travel time than the universe is oldâ"an estimated 14 billion or so years." What's weird is that the site also said that the farthest galaxy we could see is 12 billion light years away. My answer to this piece of information is that when God created the universe, He made a mature universe. Instead of making seeds and eggs and baby animals, He made trees and birds and full grown creatures. He made stars that we could see already and even galaxies. I think that was very nice of Him too.
Now after saying all that...
The visible universe is 156 billion light years across
lol You can't even see that far. It will be around 144 billion years before we can even see that far. Where are you getting that information?
As for the question for the age of the universe, there are 2 main theories on this. One being that it is infinitely large and the other being that it is of spherical shape and limited in size.
The real answer is that no one knows for certain.
Here is a reasonable answer I found on a quick google:
The size of the universe is unknown. The visible universe, the part we can see, is about 93 billion light years across. Picture the earth and an observer there being able to see for 46.5 billion light years outward in any direction. And that's just the part we can see. Also, the universe is known to be expanding, so it is becoming incrementally larger. How far it goes beyond what we can see is still a subject for debate. It's shape is not known, either.
Out of interest, why wouldn't this infinitely large universe full of other planets be mentioned at all in the Bible? It seems kind of significant to leave out. I mean if it took God 7 days to create the Earth it must have taken him billions of years to create the universe.
