I'm in ninth grade and we're studying WWII now. In WWI, they didn't know how to use any of their new technology, such as tanks, but in WWII, they had quite a few new tactics. Also, they had technology that we see today, such as aircraft carriers. Despite these, there were still more than a few blunders on both sides.

are you in the states? in canada u can only do history in grade 10, any ways its true hitler had made alot of mistakes, if he had played it a bit smarter, he might have owned all of europe.

in WWI i guess germany should have stuck to the schliefen plan, maybe they could have taken france if they did.

Hitler had good tactics, but his failure was like that of the romans. His empire got too large and he didn't have the manpower to defend it all.

There was also 2 major problems that the Axis powers (Germany, Italy, and Japan) made and they were these: Japan Attacking Pearl Harbor giving the U.S. a solid reason to join the war and Germany attacking the USSR (Soviet Union). With the U.S. in the war, the tide was starting to shift, and with the USSR resisting spreading out the Nazi troops, the Nazi army was more susceptible to being eliminated.

True. Plus, there was the japanese blunder at Midway. They lost almost all their aircraft carriers, and their navy never was able to rebuild itself after that battle.

Well yes, but I was focusing more on the downfall of the European Axis powers. Japan did have blunders, and the U.S. got lucky at Pearl Harbor with all our carriers not in port, which made the victory of Japan possible.

True. Hitler also made a big mistake with Operation Sea Lion. IF he had focused on the more strategic targets, such as airfields and radar installations, instead of bombing London to shaken the British's will, he might've won.

True, there was also the fact that the attempt to take control of the British skies failed and he had to pull out his air force entirely, which left England to be the least damaged, geographically, besides North American countries.

And, he never even considered that the British might be strengthening their shoreline defenses while he was busy bombing London (Actually, the bombing of London was one of his generals, Herman Gorring's, idea), that they might be strengthening their shoreline defenses. Also, he didn't take into account that the British had a highly superior navy than him.

Yeah, I'm not sure, but didn't Britain have the best navy back then? I know the U.S. has dominated every military division now, but it wasn't always like that.

Yeah, Britain relied on its navy more than its land armies to protect its interests

Yeah, but did they have the strongest navy in the world at the time? Not completely sure if the yeah was really answering it. Sorry, just confused.

Alright. I know Britain had the best navy in the world at a time, just can't remember which time "at a time" is.

For WWI

Only just though the naval arms race was one of the things that increased tensions before the war. Kaiser Wilhelm came over to England to see his cousin. When he saw the navy he decided to get one like that. Unfortunatly there wasn't really a proper naval battle in WWI Jutland was a sclose as it gets.

WWII

The navy was primarily used for getting supplied from America and as torpedo fodder for the U-boats. The channel had been filled with mines and subs so the navy was very limited. However as an island the navy has always been important to us.
