I always complained that cafeteria food in schools couldn't be any worse than food served in prison. I was just watching Supersize Me and here is what I found out.

Barbara Brown is the field representative for Sodexho, one of the countless lowest bidders that school districts have farmed out the feeding of your children to. Sodexho searves us more than 400 k-12 school districts nation wide everyday. Providing quality food like Little Debbie Snack Cakes, Gatoraid, and Candybars to your children. They also opperate prisons and feed thousands of inmates world wide.

So, either inmates are getting too good a lunch, or students aren't getting good enough a lunch. What do you think?

Personal opinion is that prisoners have to much luxury but that is speaking of my own country i would not know of America.
Cafeteria food has always been cheap and nasty, i remember in the last couple of years of my school they went super healthy, that just wasn't right either.

Cafeteria food is okay here, you can choose what you want to buy and it isn't always just one thing. And it usually never changes.

However, I still bring my own lunch.

My university has built-in fast-food restaurants, so I can't complain, nor should I even discuss how bad school lunches are. We have the budget to do such a thing, plus we have a mini-mart inside that sells snacks, energy drinks, ice creams, and so forth. They however, are independent businesses, so their prices aren't cheap. The meals are fantastic though.

I do remember senior year though. Yeah, the food there wasn't great at all, save for the ala carte line, that served popcorn chicken and Bosco Sticks. Their credo is: "You get what you pay for." So I think of it as, the more you pay, the better you get. True in most areas.

The lunches are not horrible, but they sure are a rip off. $2.50 in american currency for a little slice of Pizza. And the pizza tastes more like pencil shavings then pizza.

i am a boarder at my school, giving me no option to have packed lunches...but oh how i wish i could! the meat is ALWAYS overcooked, the pasta and rice are, as a rule, undercooked, sauces are generally rather flourescent!

I believe it depends on the level of schooling you are talking about like say middle school lunches wont be the same as a universitys.
