Is anyone into Astronomy? I know I am. There are alot of things that we do that are based on astronomy. We just don't know it. Here is a real and true example-
The anciet people always studied the sky. They knew the sky and the patterns of the stars like the back of their hand. Every star moves along the sky in the same pattern every year, and the ancient people knew that. But every once and a while there would be 5 stars that didn't move across the sky like the other stars. Those 5 stars were also alot brighter then the other stars. The ancient people didn't know how to explain these 5 bright stars that didn't follow the same pattern as the other stars. So the said that the 5 stars were gods. They also gave those 5 stars a name. They called those 5 stars 'wandering stars' or as we call them today, 'lanets' 5 of the planets in our solar system are visable in the night sky from earth, (mercury, veanus, mars, jupiter, and saturn). The ancient people knew nothing about planets, so they decided the 5 planets were Gods, because the planets are not only bright, but they don't follow the pattern that all of the stars do.
It might be hard to belive, but it is true. The fact that we can see planets at night is also true. Go outside any day that it isn't overcast between now and mid-march. There will be a super bright star. It will be over 3 times brighter then any other star in the sky. That super bright star is actually a planet, Veanus. It is so bright not only because it is so close to us, but also because of its color. Grab a decent pair of binoculars, and you will be able to see a yellow-orange color. That is The color of the immense clouds that are on Veanus.
Here is a good example on how things that we don't even think about are based on astronomy-
Have you ever wondered why we have 7 days? It the 7 days are for the 5 planets the ancient people could see, the sun, and the moon. Monday is lunes in spanish. (pronounced lunase) Lunes is the day for the moon. Tuesday is martes in spanish. Martes is the day for Mars. Wednesday is miercoles in spanish. (pronounced mear-e-coles) Miercoles Is the day for Mercury. Thursday is jueves in spanish. Jueves Is the day for Jupiter. Friday is viernes in spanish. Viernes is the day for Veanus. Saturday is sabado in spanish. Sabado is the day for Saturn. Sunday is domingo in spanish. Domingo is the day for the sun.
So there you have it- 2 great examples on how Astronomy has shaped our lives in ways that we don't even think about. If we could see 6 planets in the sky, then we would have an 8 day week!
I did get out of hand. I just get extremely pissed off when people find it stupid. Basically, because Astronomy is everything there ever has been and ever will be. I know I already said that, but I think that if people choose to ignore it, then they are ignoring the most important thing there is. I'm sorry I got out of hand. Thats pretty much all I can say. But even through I should have handled that differently, I do not completely regret everything I said. Most of that was my true thoughts, blown way out of proportion. Basically, I over reacted and went into extremes about everything.
Even through I sad I wouldn't quote everything, there are some things I feel I need to respond directly too:
@Green12324- Your whole post was focused on telling me that I flamed him. I understand that, and I'm pretty sure everyone does. Please refrain from further posting unless you have something to say about the main topic. (Astronomy)
LMAO! I think thingthingfreak gets picked on alot
I guess you could say that. Basically, alot of people on AG think they have to point out every little wrong detail. Most of AG's users are people trying to be perfectionists, and striving to be a mod. I do neither. I voice my 100% true opinion and that is what usually leads to people trying to pick on me. Usually I do not respond to those people. They are a waste of my time.
I find it funny your armatar is smiling.
I would too, except I'm not always flaming people. I do it very rarely actually. But in this example, I will admit that it is slightly humorous.
Astronomy is everything there ever has been and ever will be.
You're thinking of physics, buddy. Physics deals with the particles that make up the matter - the laws of gravity, black holes, all of that. Astronomy is just the study of the stars, constellations, stuff liek that - the actual roots of everything is physics.
Also, he said that it seems cool, he's just not into it. He never said it's stupid. so you overreacted in a huge extreme.
That has been stated... Over and over again. I'm pretty sure everyone understands that. Try to post something constructive, or don't post at all. All you just did was point out the obvious.

I look at it in away that the stars, black holes, nebula, and all that are what ever has and will be. Physics is the explanation of it. I'm talking about the actual things.
~Now, please only post things about Astronomy after this. If you believe that I am wrong with something, take it out with me on my messenger. I've ruined alot of this thread's thought by over reacting, and I would like to get back on topic. People just criticizing me is going to lead to this thread getting locked, so please do not post unless you have something about Astronomy to say.

Well it was the main thing in the thread at the time. If you're going to flame someone with a huge post, expect that people are going to ignore everything else and attack you. Just how it goes on AG.
Anyway, now that we've got that out of the way I think I will say something about astronomy. It's not the most important subject in my opinion, but in the future I think it will become more and more important. As we learn more and more about other planets, and start exploring the universe we're going to need to know about it all. Astronomy can also be interesting at times.
That would only apply if you quoted my whole post. before making that reply. YOu didn't.

The actual things weren't put there by the laws of astronomy. They were put there by the laws of physics. Astronomy is just the study of what's there, not how it got there. It's the 'what,' not the 'why.'
I wish we could create an efficiant spaceship to go deep out of our solar system
the tech exists....and has been deemed possible..but it would not be you who step on to that alien planet in another galaxy..it will be your childrens childrens grandchildren who do it......
They were put there by the laws of physics.
yes they were actually my favourite subject is physics and cause i found astrophysics so interesting i am now 100% astronomy *nerd*
Its a bit of a shame cause you cant even see the stars where im at...
I feel pretty bad for you becasue its so amazing to see them. You should try to find someplace like a beach where you can occasionally go even if its just to look at stars with binoculars.
I love astronomy. It's so interesting. I love watching the history channel, and watching the show "The Universe." It teaches you a lot. Such as Super Black Holes, Stars etc,.
