Was about to make a thread about this....It scares me...

It may be a joke...like Y2K...but what if it isn't? I am just surprised that if the Virus has been identified to be on computers, how come there isn't something to get rid of it? They say that it has infected our computers, yet how do they know that and how are we meant to protect ourselves besides just updating like they told us to.

Also, why is this only becoming advertised now? If it is so great of a threat, shouldn't we have been notified earlier?

And surely it would be easy for Microsoft to trace the creators...they have billions of dollars and many, many computer nerds!

Finally, how many virus' are made by anti-virus companies?

Thats scary. I currently have a anti-virus thing that keeps popping up and I close it and now I want it.

Creepy... I think I'll just not turn my computer on on april first.... OMG, tomorow! And my birthday! That sucks!

I'm just gonna go install anti virus...

Finally, how many virus' are made by anti-virus companies?

The guys who made Conficker are smart. They are also hidden from the world and they are also computer nerds.

You need anri-malware aside from your standard anti-virus software.

Looks like they only found out about this recently.

Updating is one of the ways that Windows users can help themselves. You should also update your anti Malware. Though, there is no grantee that you will be safe by just updating.

Conficker C is the newest in a series of worms. Many however are working to crack down on this worm. It will be eventually rendered ineffective but right now, time is of the essence.

I am logging on tomorrow, which is April Fools. I have about five hours left until the day. I'm going to take precautions.

They found out about it in January.

Two hours for me...although it will probably be based on American time or GMT...

LOL...People at Microsoft are probably pooing themselves...

They found out that it will strike in April 1 recently.

CA said it recently found a piece of code in Conficker C that says the worm will become active on April 1. Previous versions of the malicious software launched on specific dates noted in the program code, so the April Fool's Day launch date is not likely to be a trick, DeBolt said.

I've quoted that from a CNN news article.

Hehe. They are giving a "bounty on the creator's" head. 250,000$.

It's time to read something more on this subject.

My computer is a Mac so I'm safe. I'm still being more cautious. I logged out of every site I'm on except this one.

Why would numerous organizations and websites show this as news if this was a joke?

Ok, for the technologically deficient:

The first thing that Downadup does is:
1) Disables Windows Update. Microsoft has already sent a patch for this worm, but not everyone has it.
2) Deletes all your sysetm restore points. This way, you can't use the OS to take out the bug.
3) Disables your antivirus updates. This way, you can't get any third-party help.

Anybody that is serious enough to do all that isn't going to just pull a big April Fool's joke. This is a BIG problem, and with an estimated 9,000,000 to 15,000,000 computer bot-net, whatever's gonna happen is going to be big.

You know Deth, a wise man once said- "It is those who think they are the safest who are the most vulnerable of all." In other words, you may think your safe, but be forewarned.

Hm... I'd better run anti-virus later. Whoever made this virus, as much as I hate to admit, is a genius with both computers and human nature. Don't trust people, especially if it has anything to do with april fools day. Make sure to launch said virus on the day no one will believe it actually exists. Genius! This will be big... I see four possible outcomes... One, and the least likely of the outcomes, is the government or whoever somehow fixes the computers at the last second, arresting whoever's responsible. Two, the virus will launch, and they will use it to destroy everyones hard drive/steal personal data/or something otherwise considered 'bad'. Three, this is all just a big hoax created by one person at microsoft which then spread through the internet. There is no real threat. Or finally four, the virus will launched as planned, but it actually causes another program to start, which opens a page or video constantly screaming "APRIL FOOLS!!!" It will not go away until end day, successfully getting the hackers (outside of the life penalty) in the Genuisses book of world records.
