while we're at it... Let's ban cars since they kill more than guns. Let's ban obesity since it kills more than guns. Let's ban doctors since they kill more than guns. Let's ban smoking since it kills more than guns. Let's ban alcohol since it kills more than guns. Let's ban toxic agents since they kill more than guns. (sad actually)
(Also deaths due to sexual behaviors comes very close to that of guns)
Fine...but the criminals will find other ways to get the job done (knives, letter openers, forks, whatever). The point is that banning guns will not do much. Adding more regulations won't do anything unless you can watch everyone all the time to make sure the regulations are kept.
Actually heavily regulating guns will help a lot. You don't need to even really spend much money on it, you just need to have the clerks check the customer's medical history and criminal record.

Heavy regulation won't help anything. Besides, in most if not all states, felons aren't allowed to legally own guns but they still get them. Medical histories are for doctors and criminal historys take extensive backround checks that can take weeks.
The argument that they will just get illegal guns is stupid. Illegal guns cost much more, the individual has to be nice enough not to just shoot you and keep the money, and people like that are hard to find. Most criminals are not Mafia bosses with cash to burn, and couldn't afford an illegal gun anyway.
Do you have any idea how a black market works? Obviously not: Like any other market, the guy with the cheapest/best goods get more costumers. Thus illegal guns would be relatively cheap.
Why don't store clerks just waste you the minute you walk in the door? Then they would get to just take the money! Oh, wait, they'd likely be caught and their store would not be very popular.
Actually, most criminals are gangsters. Those who aren't, five hundred bucks for an illegal gun? Deal.

Exactly. I remember a story were a guy was selling a grenade launcher for $600. The government pays more for one, which is insane.
Heavy regulations won't help because criminals by guns illegally. The black market isn't regulated, so all this does is have law-abiding citizens jump through hoops to defend themselves.
Yet on the black market, you would have to find a merchant who won't kill you and take your money to keep the gun. Illegal weapons are cheaper, yet harder to find in that a trusted dealer will be a must, and so will finding a dealer, period.
Please read my previous post about black market gun deals. Pay attention to the analogy about store clerks 'wasting you as so as you walk in.'
The black market is underground. An illegal arms merchant probably wouldn't have a fixed HQ. The deals would probably happen in alleys out of the trunk of a car, not in a building. Besides, there are many people who don't bring money with them when they walk in the door, so just wasting them as they walk in would be stupid. Black market merchants aren't stupid like you presume them to be.

As if everyone is honest about that kind of stuff...

Yeah, but because of the greater risk involved since the guns are illegal, the dealer will probably ask for more money in his sales in order to make it worth his time.

But not much more. Not enough to make people unable to purchase them.
