Allright, so here is the background story on this....
Every day at lunch, Me and a few of my freinds have 5 minute debates. We make a topic one day, go home and reaserch it, and defend our points the next day.
So the one that was the most contravercial, was is a harpoon considered a bullet?
Now, I say Yes it is. A bullet by deffinition is a projectial shot from a gun.
omg...skater kid don't u get headaches from trying to figure this things out...i got a really bad headache and this was just one debate i can't imagine debating on this kinds of situations every other day...well on the subject umm harpoon is a bullet but not the type of bullet fired from a gun...just like there is different bullets for different guns...a harpoon is a bullet fired from another type of gun...its a bullet but not the type of bullet fired from normal guns..its a whole kind of bullet on its own....*wooow that barely made any sense**
A bullet is fired from a firearm, sling or an air gun. A harpoon is not a bullet, just because it can be fired from a harpoon launcher.

A bullet is a hard projectile propelled by a firearm, sling, or air gun and is normally made from metal.
That is the definition of a bullet. A harpoon launcher is not a gun. A bullet is not a harpoon. A harpoon is a spear like instrument used to catch large fish and whales!
harpoon - a big bullet used to get big fishes
A harpoon is a spear like instrument used to catch large fish and whales! It is intended to be thrown but CAN be launched as a projectile.
Bullets = ammunition fired from firearms, airguns. Usually pointed and usually made from metal.
Harpoons = spear like instruments thrown to catch large fish and whales.
harpoon launcher = Big gun Harpoon = Big bullet
The modern whaling harpoon consist of a deck-mounted launcher (mostly a cannon) and a projectile which is a large harpoon connected to a thick rope. The spearhead is shaped in a manner which allows it to penetrate the thick layers of whale blubber and stick in the flesh. It has sharp spikes to prevent the harpoon from sliding out. Thus, by pulling the rope with a motor, the whalers can drag the whale back to their ship.
Harpoons are not launched from hand held guns. They are launched from things like this -
Do you call that a gun?
Harpoons are fishing tools which can be used as weapons. They are not bullets fired from guns.

A harpoon is a launcher from a harpoon gun. Bullets are launched from firearms and air guns.
Just because a harpoon is launched from a harpoon rifle, does not mean it is a bullet!
No, an arrow isn't a bullet, what are those called?
Arrows are projectiles. I don't understand where this thread is going.
a harpoon is used like a bullet..
Not exactly. It is used more like a spear.. It's a projectile. If all projectiles were considered as bullets, then crossbow bolts would be bullets.
But When the spear thing is shot out of the harpoon it has so string to drag it back, guns don't have this so i'm not sure if it is.
That's another point to prove that harpoons are not bullets.
can be fired out of a hand held gun so it must be considered to be a bullet
A harpoon rifle launches harpoons. A harpoon rifle is not the same as a firearm. A harpoon is not a bullet. It is a fishing tool used to hunt and it also happens to be useful as a weapon.
