um, ima nub at gemcraft (lvl19) but to max all stats id figure you would need 1008 skill points (36 per skill x 28 skills) so you would need to be level 203 (1008/5+1) and that would mean doing something as insane as the numbers you guys are posting, correct?
Does it make a difference to the outcome whether you drop the supergem on the weaker gem or the other way round by dropping the weaker gem onto the supergem?
I have noticed with prismatics that the order seems to be really important, especially if one wants a high Orange component (7.4 - 6.2) is my max in a prismatic.
for damage, i don't think it makes a difference, but it's easier to drop the powerfull gem onto the weaker gems. for specials, it seems that a grade 11 primsatic cannot be affected by being dropped onto grade 6's (with the exception of poison and slow, which receive small increases); when dropping a weak gem on the strong gem, the specials held by the weak gem get upped towards max (or a somewhat lower value if a mixed gem is used), and all other specials are decreased.
alternatively, drop a weak prismatic onto the strong gem, and the strong gem will have the specials of the weak prismatic.
New to the site and the game so please excuse any obvious questions!
I found the game yesterday and spent hours on it, but I am a bit confused, is there an insructions or tutorial page about what all the different combination of gems and stuff do?
the other question is I don't seem to earn enough to build a serious amount of towers or traps with high powered gems in them, am I going wrong somewhere? I usually end up with two or three towers and only a 2 or 3 grade gem in each of them.
Any basic tips? I don't want a walkthrough or anything but I get the feeling there is something really obvious I'm missing and I'm not playing the game fully.
for trickstar: Don't worry, the first few levels don't need grade 6+ gems-and there's not enough time to build them, anyways. (note: increasing the grade also increases the price/damage).
a list of all 8 colors and the associated special: Red-splash damage in towers, when strong enough can hit multiple monsters in traps. Orange-steals mana from monsters, and puts it in your mana pool Yellow-chance of triple damage. Lime-chance of chain hit. green-poisons enemy. only one poison effect can work at a time in GCO Blue-slows enemies down. Cyan-chance of shocking enemies Purple-chance of lowering monster armor (thus making it easier to do damage to the monster)
Assorted tips: When combining gems, either combine gems of equal grade (conventional combining), or gems with a difference of at least 2 grades (supergemming). Dual gems are stronger than pure gems in the long run, but pure gems are easier to work with (especially at first). Gems with 3-7 components are not recommended, as they have less firerate and firepower than pure and dual gems. Gems with all 8 components have all the specials, though each special is weaker*. I recommend them only when you can make at least grade 9 gems, preferably grade 11-the specials usually max* by grade 9, but grade 11 is needed for the maximum fire-rate. *prismatic specials behave rather strangely-don't worry about it yet. past the first or second gaurdian (and on endurance mode), you'll want to use some R/O (red/orange) gems in traps, but only if the splash >15. Otherwise, use some orange gems in them. This is called a mana farm. lastly: Anger waves by dropping gem bombs (start with grade 1) onto the stones at the left to increase monster numbers, monster hp, and score per monster-but only when you're sure your defences can handle it.
to conner: wave 80, I've got 2 or 3 gems with 100k max damage, I'm now increasing max damage by around 20-30k each wave.
you need to step up the firepower a ton, try to reach 5 by wave 100
i now realise 2 gems will be more effective than 1 for numerous reasons, and ill do prismatic with yellow #1, lime #2, red #3, and purple #4
still the big question, traps or towers? i mean im thinking towers because if i put in traps tehy theres positioning, if i put at start they wont make it far on the road, if i put at end not many may reach them, if i put as tower they can still hit multiple targets i know but i just veiw traps superior in dmg, its just in towers tehyre constantly in use. i think ill put in towers til monsters reach the end of the road where ill then switch to the end/middle-end
i want 2 gems 2m firepower, id lvoe to see the 5 lead monsters hit by 2m + 2m dmg, both on triples making it 6m a piece x 5, that would drop the leading 5 monsters a total of 60m hp in a single frame, id love to see that
fractal i love pics you know, i hope youve at least racked up 10b because after wave 80 the scorings over half done
Supergemming is the process of rising the power of a single gem by combining it with a lot of gems 2 or more grades lower than this one. The advantage in supergemming is less cost for more powerful gem, but it costs more time and is risky abit, if you'll miss a color, you'll end up with a triple gem, which is bad. If you have a prismatic, you don't have to worry, but you shouldn't try getting one of these while you're low in wizard level. Normally you have say grade 3 R/O gem and a bunch of grade 1 R and O gems. You combine that grade 3 with grade 1s, your grade 3 slowly raises in damage, range AND firing speed, the latter is the key for supergems. But, a fully maxed supergem is worth some 4000 mana, maybe more, haven't counted, so don't ever plan to have such a gem early and unprepared.
Also, once you'll get level 12, you can earn an orange gem at any level you play, you will have to use gem bombing against the inventory to produce more of them, they are necessary to be able to score higher.
You really should read the Strategy guide that is linked from the game. It is very important.
When you start off the game is not that hard, and you don't really need a lot of mana and gems. Then the game will get progressively harder. Everyone at one time or another hit a brick wall. Reflect, adjust your skill points and once you break through that barrier, you'll be set to go.
Once you figure out the skills and resources to build a mana farm, play a few battles in endurance mode with angering the monster waves, you'll never look back.
